A film-loving country such as ours plans its weekends around the movies. A perfect getaway from the mundane world is a three-hour trip to the cinema.
In January 2017, OK Jaanu failed to impress the audiences while Haraamkhor did average business. Bollywood still has a long list of films to offer and looking at the line-up, it seems like film lovers will have a busy year ahead.
Here are 43 Most Awaited Bollywood Movies of 2017:
1. Raees – January 25
The film is based on the life of the Gujarati don Abdul Latif Shaikh and is set in Gujarat in the 1980s. The film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mahira Khan.
2. Kaabil – January 25
With Mohenjo Daro bombing at the box office and his personal life being dragged all over the news, 2016 was not a great year for Hrithik Roshan.
However, his next release, Kaabil, might just be the game-changer he desperately needs. In the film, Hrithik plays a blind man out to get revenge for his wife. The film also stars Yami Gautam, Ronit Roy and Rohit Roy.
3. Jolly LLB 2 – February 10
Akshay Kumar plays a lawyer in the film who takes the system head-on while fighting for the common man.
The film’s trailer shows Jolly as a jovial guy whose life changes when he is handed a case that will change his approach towards his profession.
4. The Ghazi Attack – February 17
The film is based on naval warfare and is being made in Hindi and Telugu simultaneously.
Starring Rana Daggubati, Taapsee Pannu and Kay Kay Menon, the film is directed by debutante-director Sankalp Reddy.
5. Rangoon – February 24
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj the film Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut. The film is a period drama set during the second world war.
6. Commando 2 – March 3
The film is the sequel of the 2013 film, Commando: A One Man Army.
The action film stars Vidyut Jamwal in the lead role and we are still waiting on more details about the film. The film also stars Adil Hussain, Adah Sharma and Esha Gupta.
7. Badrinath Ki Dulhania – March 10
Starring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, we are expecting this one to be a fun film.
After the success of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014), this is the second film from the franchise and is being directed by Shashank Khaitan who also directed the first film.
8. Begum Jaan – March 17
Vidya Balan plays the role of a brothel’s madam in this film set during the partition era.
The film is the adaptation of 2015 Bengali film Rajkahini and is being directed by Srijit Mukherji.
9. Sarkar 3 – March 17
Ram Gopal Varma has teamed up with Amitabh Bachchan for the third installment of the series.
The film also stars Ronit Roy, Manoj Bajpayee, Yami Gautam and Jackie Shroff and with this stellar cast, we are surely looking forward to this one.
10. Phillauri – March 24
Starring Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma, the film is produced the actress herself.
Anshai Lal is directing the film which is said to be a romantic comedy.
11. Hindi Medium – March 31
Starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar, this film is a romantic comedy that follows a couple who resides in Chandni Chowk and aspires to enhance their lifestyle.
12. Naam Shabana – March 31
After the success of Baby (2015), the film has turned into a franchise and Naam Shabana is the next one in the series.
The film stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead role and will also feature a special appearance by Akshay Kumar.
13. Jagga Jasoos – April 7
This film directed by Anurag Basu and starring Ranbir Kapoor & Katrina Kaif is a ride into a fantasy land.
The surreal promo of the film has certainly impressed the audience. The film is the story of a detective who is in search of his father.
14. Kaalakaandi – April 21
The film is the story of six individuals who are in search of their identity in Mumbai.
The film is the directorial debut of writer Akshat Verma (who wrote Delhi Belly). It stars Saif Ali Khan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Neil Bhoopalam and Deepak Dobriyal.
15. Noor – April 21
This film stars Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role and is based on Saba Imtiaz’s novel, ‘Karachi, You’re Killing Me!’ Sonakshi will play a journalist in this film that also stars Kanan Gill and Purab Kohli.
16. Bahubali: The Conclusion – April 28
Why did Kattappa kill Bahubali? We’ll finally have the answer to this question.
This is certainly the most awaited sequel this year. Directed by S.S. Rajamouli, the film stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati and Tamannaah Bhatia.
17. Meri Pyaari Bindu – May 12
With this film, Parineeti Chopra will return to the silver screen after a long hiatus (she was last seen in 2014’s Kill Dil).
The film also stars Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role. Set in Kolkata and Mumbai, the film has Khurrana essaying the role of a horror novelist and Chopra the part of a singer.
18. Half Girlfriend – May 19
Based on Chetan Bhagat’s book, this film stars Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in title roles.
The film is directed by Mohit Suri.
19. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha – June 2
This film starring Akshay Kumar & Bhumi Pednekar has the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan as its underlining subject. The film is a social satire to eradicate the problem of defecating in the open.
20. Raabta – June 9
Directed by Dinesh Vijan, this film stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in the lead.
The film is a love story that spans over two eras. Deepika Padukone will also have a special appearance in the film.
21. Tubelight – June 26
Starring Salman Khan and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, this film is a period drama based on the Indo-China War of 1962.
The film is directed by Kabir Khan who has earlier directed films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ek Tha Tiger.
22. Munna Michael – July 7
The story of boy who is a huge fan of Michael Jackson has the perfect cast to support the story.
Tiger Shroff plays the protagonist of the film and stars opposite Nidhhi Agerwal who makes her debut with this film. The film also has Nawazuddin Siddiqui as part of the cast.
23. Chef – July 14
This film is an official remake of Jon Favreau’s 2014 film, Chef.
The film is the journey of a chef who rediscovers his love for food and cooking. Saif Ali Khan will play the title role in the film and the movie is directed by Raja Krishna Menon (who earlier directed Airlift).
24. Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai – July 14
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, this film is the biopic of terrorist Dawood Ibrahim’s sister, Haseena Parkar.
Shraddha Kapoor will play the title role in the film and her brother, Siddhanth Kapoor, will be seen as Dawood.
25. Bareilly Ki Barfi – July 21
Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon, this film is set in Bareily and is a romantic comedy. Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, who has earlier directed Nil Battey Sannata, has directed this film.
26. Mubarkan – July 28
Arjun Kapoor plays a double role in this film that also stars Anil Kapoor, Ileana D’Cruz and Athiya Shetty.
The film is directed by Anees Bazmee who is known for his comedy films like Welcome and No Entry.
27. Bhoomi – August 4
The film is directed by Omung Kumar who is known for films like Sarbjit andMary Kom. The film is an emotional drama about a father-daughter relationship starring Sanjay Dutt.
28. The Ring (Tentative title) – August 11
Imtiaz Ali’s next starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma is certainly one of the most awaited films this year.
Ali certainly has a knack of telling the most beautiful love stories and with SRK joining him, we are expecting nothing less than magic on screen.
29. Reloaded – August 25
This film is a sequel to the Hrithik-Katrina starrer Bang Bang! (2014).
Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez, Reloaded, will be an action film.
30. Baadshaho – September 1
This film stars Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta and Ileana D’Cruz in the lead roles.
The film is directed by Milan Luthria who has earlier directed films like The Dirty Picture and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai.
31. Simran – September 15
Kangana Ranaut will be seen playing a Gujarati woman, Simran, who lives in USA.
Hansal Mehta is directing the project and after films like Aligarh and Shahid, we are certainly expecting a lot from this one.
32. Judwaa 2 – September 29
The 1997 film Judwaa still makes us laugh and with a remake of the film coming up, we hope they don’t destroy the classic.
Starring Varun Dhawan, Tapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez, the film will be directed by David Dhawan who also directed the original. Salman Khan will have a guest appearance in double role!
33. Aankhen 2 – October 19
The 2002 film, Aankhen, was based on a bank robbery conducted by 3 blind men and 15 years later, the next film from the franchise is releasing.
Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Arshad Warsi, Anil Kapoor and Arjun Rampal and is said to be set in a casino in Cape Town.
34. 2.0 – October 19
Directed by S. Shankar, this film is the sequel of 2010’s hit film, Enthiran.
Rajinikanth will reprise his role from the previous film and Akshay Kumar will be seen in a negative role. It is estimated to be the most expensive Indian film till date!
35. Golmaal 4 – October 19
The fourth film from the Golmaal franchise. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film stars Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra.
36. Padmavati – November 17
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next is the story of Alauddin Khilji, Rani Padmini and Rana Rawal Ratan Singh.
The film stars Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone and is already in the news for its grandeur, just like all the other Bhansali films!
37. Tumhari Sulu – December 1
Vidya Balan’s second release for the year, Tumhari Sulu, is directed by Suresh Triveni.
Vidya will play the role of a late-night radio show host in the film.
38. Tiger Zinda Hai – December 22
Ali Abbas Zafar is directing the sequel to 2012’s hit film, Ek Tha Tiger. This film stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead role.
39. Padman – Release date to be announced
Twinkle Khanna’s first production venture is the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham.
He started the revolution of creating affordable sanitary napkins that could be distributed throughout the country. Akshay Kumar will be seen in the title role in this film.
40. Bhavesh Joshi – Release date to be announced
Starring Harshvardhan Kapoor in the lead role, this film is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane who is still remembered for his films Lootera andUdaan.
41. Battle of Saragarhi – Release date to be announced
Dirceted by Rajkumar Santoshi, this film is based on the 1897 battle that was fought by the British Indian contingent of 21 Sikhs against the Afghan Orakzai tribesmen.
Randeep Hooda will be seen playing the title role of Havildar Ishar Singh.
42. Mom – Release date to be announced
Starring Sridevi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, this film is directed by Ravi Udyawar.
Sridevi was last seen in English Vinglish and her fans are looking forward to this film.
43. Student Of The Year 2 – Release date to be announced
Starring Tiger Shroff in the lead, this film will be directed by Punit Malhotra.
The remaining cast is yet to be announced and we are yet to see if this will be a sequel of the first film or the next one from the franchise.
Looks like a good year for Bollywood!
