Actors Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, apart from directors like Mrinal Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Goutam Ghose are among the Indians invited to be a part of the Oscar Academy’s ‘Class of 2017’.

The announcement was made on Wednesday.

“We’re proud to invite our newest class to the Academy. The entire motion picture community is what we make of it,” Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, was quoted as saying on the official Oscar website.

“It’s up to all of us to ensure that new faces and voices are seen and heard, and to take a shot on the next generation the way someone took a shot on each of us,” Isaacs added.

There are 774 new members from 57 countries — a record-breaking number.

The Oscar Academy has noted not just a 359 per cent increase in women invited to join the Academy from 2015-2017, but also a marked rise in people of colour invited — signifying the diversity it was embracing.

From India, there are also actors Irrfan Khan and Salman Khan, Indian costume designer Arjun Bhasin, directors and writers like Anand Patwardhan and Sooni Taraporevala.

Even India-born Mohit Kallianpur and Mahesh Ramasubramanian, who have worked in animation and visual effects of Hollywood films like “Frozen” and “Shrek” respectively, are a part of the exhaustive list.

Among other international high-profile actors newly invited to the Academy are “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot, “Moonlight” Oscar nominee Naomie Harris, Donald Glover, Chris Hemsworth, Riz Ahmed, Adam Driver, Dwayne Johnson, Leslie Jones, Betty White, Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris, Margot Robbie, Channing Tatum, Kristen Stewart, Shailene Woodley, Ruth Negga, and Rupert Grint.

Directors include Barry Jenkins, Jordan Peele, David Ayer, Theodore Melfi and the Russo brothers.

The new members invited are part of seven branches — actors, casting directors, costume designers, designers, documentary, executives and film editors.

Aishwarya: Make-up uplifts and sets your mood like music https://glint.tv/movies/aishwarya-make-up-uplifts-and-sets-your-mood-like-music/ Mon, 22 May 2017 07:25:43 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=8877

Indian actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been representing India at the Cannes Film Festival for over a decade — once as a jury member, then for a movie and multiple times for a cosmetic brand. She says wearing make-up is part of her lifestyle as she belongs to the glamour industry, but she really feels it is as good as music in setting her mood for a day.

The world has seen the blue-eyed beauty in different characters in films — whether it was the vulnerable prisoner in “Provoked”, the beautiful Bengali girl in “Devdas”, the young Gujarati girl in “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” or an angry sister in “Sarbjit”. Interestingly, make-up has played a crucial role in building up her on-screen characters.

“I think we all love to play with colours to create something that reflects on every creative aspect of life — be it make-up, be it fashion… It works like a mood uplifter. So, I think make-up is like music, it’s like a creative energy, it uplifts and sets your mood,” Aishwarya told media here from Cannes Film Festival via a video call.

The actress, who always experiments with her lip colours and eye shadows and at times gets criticism as well, spoke about how she celebrates the power of make-up as part of her daily life.

“We are in a profession where we are working day and night, and still have to meet people in a certain way. I might have a sleepless night with my child but the next day when I am going for a professional meeting, people shouldn’t get that vibe that ‘Oh God! She is tired’,” Aishwarya said.

“There comes the make-up. I get ready every morning with my lipstick, mascara and basic make-up… That gets me a fresh energy. I also think that since I have been working for so many years now, it has become a part of my life,” said the L’Oréal Paris brand ambassador.

No skin show or liplocks in ‘Ae Dil…’: Aishwarya https://glint.tv/slider-videos/no-skin-show-or-liplocks-in-ae-dil-hai-mushkil-aishwarya/ Sat, 22 Oct 2016 15:51:27 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=4737

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Saturday said there is no skin show or liplocks in her upcoming film “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”.

The steaming chemistry between Rabir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of the widely discussed aspects of Karan Johar’s much talked about film.

According to the actress, there is no frivolous sensual scene in the film of the on-screen couple.

Referring to those scenes and giving a better insight of her character in the movie, she said: “Saba Khan is a character which has been projected in a very classy, elite and dignified manner. She has a huge impact on Ayan’s (played by Ranbir Kapoor) life.”

“It is her attitude that made her an attractive woman. We did not intend to show skin, liplocks or frivolous sensuality on screen. It is about the relationship between Saba and Ayan.”

Since this is the first time the actress worked with her old friend Karan Johar, she also spoke about her experience.

“I am so fortunate to play a character like Saba. I never met a woman like Saba before… so as an actress, it was a fulfilling experience for me to essay a character like this.”

The actress who shares her screen space with Anushka Sharma, also answered the question if there was any cold-vibes between the two.

“Well, we did not have many scenes together but one very crucial scene where Saba, Ayan and Alizeh comes together. Why should we have any problem or insecurity? We were good!” seconding her answer, Anushka smiled.

Abhishek Bachchan opens up on reports of marriage ‘troubles’ with Aishwarya Rai https://glint.tv/movies/abhishek-bachchan-opens-up-on-reports-of-marriage-troubles-with-aishwarya-rai/ Wed, 15 Jun 2016 12:02:04 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=2263

In a season of breakups, in which many celebrity couples were seen parting ways, everyone were taken by surprise when reports emerged about troubles in the married life of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. A video in which Abhishek was seen walking away, despite Aishwarya’s request of posing for media, during the premier of movie Sarbjit, only added fuel to the fire.

Abhishek, who generally takes these kinds of report with a pinch of salt, opened up about the incident in an interview with a leading daily. “I know what the truth is and I know how far to take the media seriously,” Abhishek said. “I am not going to allow a third party to dictate to me and Aishwarya how we should lead our lives.”

Aishwarya and Abhishek tied the knots in 2007, after falling in love while shooting for their movie Guru. The couple now has a baby girl Aaradhya. Abhishek made it clear that he is not explaining about his relationship with Aishwarya to people, as they have nothing to do with their personal lives.

“She knows how much I love her and I know how much she loves me,” Abhishek said. “If you are going to misinterpret something for your own convenience, then go ahead. I am a public figure after all. I cannot make the media happy all the time. My marriage and my life are not going to be dictated by what the media says. So it’s really not an issue for me.”
