Nothing is implausible if it works in cinema. After all, it is a part of getting the job done and hence, one does not complain when it comes to “Mubarakana” as it entertains you wholeheartedly.

As the film opens, we are informed that twins, Karan and Charan, both played by Arjun Kapoor are separated at birth. Not simply destined, but absolutely required to, by the bylaws of the Bollywood ‘Code of Cliches’.

With a predictable plot, this Anees Bazmee oeuvre with all tropes of comedy like his previous films, is based on personalities and dialogues. The audience is the target of the joke. When something funny happens, the actors don’t react; the film itself reacts by what it shows next.

Set in a Sikh family; the drama is obviously high strung. The characters are supposed to be intelligent, loud, family-oriented and yet they have the maturity of gnats.

Again by the Bollywood Code of Cliches, the twins both in love; Karan with Sweety (Ileana D’Cruz) and Charan with Nafisa (Neha Sharma) are expected to marry as per their foster parents’ wishes.

So, when a proposal comes from a close family friend, Mr. Sandhu’s daughter Binkle (Athiya Shetty), the duo are tongue tied. They simply cannot muster the courage to tell their respective foster parents about their love life.

Complications arise when the twin’s uncle Kartar Singh (Anil Kapoor) comes up with an “idea” to rescue his nephews, which leads to a big family fight. How they resolve the issues, forms the crux of the tale.

Though over the top, the actors are natural and very engaging. Real life uncle and nephew — Anil Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor shine in their respective roles.

Arjun shuttles between the shrewish Karan and the shy goody boy Charan with aplomb. Anil Kapoor on the other hand offers nothing extraordinary that we have not seen him do in his earlier films. Together, their camaraderie is palpable on screen.

The three heroines, Ileana D’Cruz as Sweety, Neha Sharma as Nafisa and Athiya Shetty as Binkle are outright perfunctory in their approach.

While the rest of the cast laudably essasy their roles effectively, it is those in the side-lines who actually take centre-stage.

What contributes to their performance, is undoubtedly the well-etched characters. Prominent among them are; Ratna Pathak Shah as Jeetu Bua and Karan’s foster mother and Pavan Raj Malhotra as Charan’s foster father Baljeet Singh who create an impact.

While the story by Balwinder Singh Janjua and Rupinder Chahal is cliched, the dialogues with comic timings, cross-references and community-jibes are noteworthy and entertaining.

The songs are an aberration to the narrative. It simply breaks the impact, especially the songs with the lyrics, “Hawa hawaa” and “Tu Google pa ke nacha”.

While the first half of the film is a breezy laugh-a-minute riot, the second half tends to be a bit melodramatic and preachy.

With ace production values, the film is a glossy and high-ended.

Overall, the film is a well-packaged entertainer.

The makers of “MUBARAKAN” have released the song “Hawa Hawa “,  which is the recreated version of the most celebrated song of 80s, ‘Hawa Hawa e Hawa .

The song feels like a typical Bollywood dance number as Arjun Kapoor can be seen dancing on the streets with a troop of background dancers to woo his lady love.

Actress Sonam Kapoor, who turned 32 on Friday, has been wished a year full of happiness and good health by her family members, friends and fraternity members.

Sonam started off as an assistant director on the 2005 film “Black”, helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who eventually launched her as an actress in his romantic drama “Saawariya” in 2007.

She was later seen in films like “Raanjhanaa”, “Khoobsurat”, “Dolly Ki Doli”, “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo”. She received the National Film Award – Special Mention for the biopic “Neerja”. Currently, she is busy shooting with actor Akshay Kumar for the upcoming film “Padman” directed by R. Balki.

Actor-filmmaker Anil Kapoor says he feels protective towards his son Harshvardhan as he is still naive in Bollywood.

The actor spoke about his son, who made his debut in Bollywood with “Mirzya” last year, in an interview in GQ India June 2017 issue, read a statement.

“I’m protective because I feel Harsh is still naive. Like for example, he’ll say no to very big filmmakers. I hope they understand that he really wants to work with them and means well, but he’s not ready to do those films. I wish he’d at least spoken to me before… But it’s fine… That’s his decision,” Anil said.

What would he change about Harshvardhan?

“I want him to loosen up. I want him to meet people and be more social,” Anil said.

Anil, who also has two daughters Sonam and Rhea, has been part of the industry for over three decades, and made a name for himself on foreign shores too courtesy “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”.

Asked if he is planning to call it a day anytime soon, Anil said his children want him to work.

“I’m waiting for the day when they come and tell me, ‘Dad, enough’. Nobody (in the family) takes me seriously,” he said.

To this, Harshvardhan replied that he wants him to do more films so that “I can be creatively more liberated and make the choices I want”.

The “Bewafaa” actor quipped: “By which he means, he can be experimental and I make the money. They’re all very selfish. They don’t care about me.”

Actress Neha Sharma says that it was great fun to work with actors Arjun and Anil Kapoor in their upcoming film “Mubarakan”.

“I am working with Anil Kapoor for the first time and it was a lot of fun to work with him and even Arjun. The shooting is finally done and I am very excited for the special appearance,” said Neha.

“‘Mubarakan’ is a fun film. A classic Anees Bazmee film. It has amazing comedy and it’s got a gamut of stars,” Neha said.

The actress was present for her app launch on Monday. She has now joined the list of stars like Salman Khan and Sunny Leone who have their own app.

Asked about the trend of celebrities having their own app, she said: “Whenever any new trend comes in town, it catches up like fire. Some fade out and some don’t. It’s very important to know what is interesting in your app… that it’s going to stick around for long.”

“The app which I am launching has amazing things in it and people are really going to enjoy it,” added Neha.

On comparing her app with the other existing apps, Neha said: “Every actor has a different personality. The way they interact with people is different and the content they put out is different. My app will be very much like me. What I like to watch and share is totally different from other actors’.”

Neha was last seen in the 2016 film “Tum Bin II”, directed by Anubhav Sinha.

“Every time there is a complaint that I rest more and do less films. But now I will be very busy doing a lot of films,” she said.

It was a star-studded night as Bollywood stars like Anil Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar and Kunal Kapoor walked the ramp while Aamir Khan, Tisca Chopra, Aayaan Mukherjee and other well known people from both the industries cheered them up.

The final evening started with the opening show of designer Rajesh Pratap Singh, who themed his collection around garment engineering and deconstruction, inspired by urban space and construction.

The colour palette was deep and dark with a blend of wool-silk, wool-cotton and wool-linen fabric. He brought about a contemporary direction in silhouettes and construction as the looks were pure and modern. Farhan Akhtar was the showstopper for Rajesh.

“Being a fan of Rajesh Pratap Singh, I am very happy to walk the ramp for him and be dressed by him. What I am wearing today is his vision. As a showstopper I am conveying that through clothes,” said Farhan Akhtar.

Actor Aamir Khan, along with Fatima and Sania from his upcoming film “Dangal” attended the show. Talking about the evening, Aamir said, “I am a fan of Rajesh Pratap ji, and I really liked his collection. Though I walked the ramp once for Salman Khan’s ‘Being Human’, I am too shy to walk the ramp. I am into casual wear and I don’t have much fashion sense.”

Since Rajesh is more personality driven designer, asked about what made him choose Farhan as a showstopper for his collection, he said,” Farhan is an intelligent man. He is not just an actor and musician but an artiste in true sense. So he is more than just a celebrity or a Bollywood personality for me!”

Followed by that, the brand Van Heusen showcased an exclusive line from ‘Fashion Formals’ which redefines power dressing.

Inspired by the Kinetic and Optical art, the range includes an array of patterns and hues with optical graphics representing the technological progress in the modern world. Kunal Kapoor walked the ramp as a showstopper for the collection.

“It is always fun to walk the ramp. When it comes to Van Heusen I think there are three words it defines — stylish, sharp and trend-setting,” said Kunal Kapoor.

The last leg of the show started with an interesting collection by Kunal Rawal titled ‘Grey Method’. He kept the fabrication, detailing, colour palette, silhouettes, embroidery and paneling of his collection classic. It consisted of an array showcasing a diverse play with Indian and western fabrics created through varied techniques.

As superstar Anil Kapoor walked the ramp with his ‘jhakkas’ attitude, it amplified the beauty of Kunal’s collection.

“I am happy for all our Indian fashion designers as they are getting their due recognition worldwide. Fashion is an art as much as dance, music, poetry and acting. Kunal is a young fashion designer and he is doing good work,” Anil said.

The evening ended with Rohit Bal, who unveiled a very interesting classic collection titled ‘bohemian chic funk’.

It amalgamated ideas, shapes, incredible silhouettes and displayed innovation in menswear. Bal’s collection was definitely for the brave-hearted embodying the spirit of spontaneity!
