Film: “Bank Chor”; Director: Bumpy; Cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Rhea Chakraborty, Sahil Vaid, Bhuvan Arora and Vikram Thapa;

Rating: **1/2

Imagine you are at a grand banquet and throughout you have been nibbling on tit-bits. At the end, though you are full, you realise that you are not satiated by the supposedly perfect festive spread that was laid out. That is exactly the feeling one gets after watching “Bank Chor”. Though the film entertains you, you still feel unsatisfied.

On the face of it, “Bank Chor” is a perfect robbery-cum-hostage drama, but the plot unravels in a convoluted manner, “taking the stupidity to the next level” and this makes the entire viewing process a tedious affair.

The film begins on a promising note. Acting like the dumb and the dumber and a very nice guy who follows ‘Vastu Shastra’ at every step, Riteish Deshmukh masquerades as Champak, a monk in disguise. He along with his two accomplices Gulab (Bhuvan Arora) who adorns the mask of an elephant, and Genda (Vikram Thapa) who wears the mask of a horse, attempt to rob a bank. How they succeed in their plan, forms the crux of the tale.

Narrated in a non-linear manner, the writing is clever, but strained in an attempt to sound intelligent. The sub-plots are half-baked and underdeveloped, making the entire chronicle seem complexed and forced.

During the proceedings, the quirky characters seem shallow and unconvincing, so you refuse to invest in them. The performance by every actor is undoubtedly sincere. The three bank robbers are loud and over-the-top, befitting the characters they play. Riteish is a brilliant comedian, but he does not add any new nuance to his character. He is ably supported by Bhuvan Arora and Vikram Thapa, in their buffoonish act as partners-in-crime.

Vivek Oberoi in an underwritten role as the CBI officer in-charge of the hostage rescue operation is understated. Rhea Chakraborty as the news reporter Gayatri is perfunctory and Sahil Vaid as Jugnu the antagonist has his moments of on screen glory.

The humour is derived from self-deprecation along with Bollywood and comic-book character references, making the film a time-limited, fragile product.

The first half of the film meanders aimlessly with no seriousness whatsoever. The second half gets interesting and by the third act, though it may seem convoluted and exaggerated, the denouement perfectly wraps up the narrative, but goes overboard which ends up confusing the audience further.

The production quality of the film befits the Yash Raj Films label, and the background score, in parts, creates the adrenaline charged atmosphere, befitting a thriller.

This is hilarious! Riteish Deshmukh stops at nothing.

Is there anything left for Riteish Deshmukh to steal after stealing movie posters, movie trailers and interviews of his fellow actors? It turns out that the Bank Chor lead actor was waiting to unveil his last big chori at the very end – Riteish has managed to steal from YRF’s iconic trilogy, Dhoom!

In the last song of the film, Jai Baba Bank Chor, Riteish can be seen dancing along with Dhoom stars Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai, John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra inside the actual footage from the Dhoom series. Coincidentally, managing to pull off this miraculous feat is also the reason behind the title of the song: Jai Baba Bank Chor indeed!

Self-confessedly India’s STUPIDEST comic thriller, Bank Chor, directed by Bumpy and produced by Ashish Patil, is all set to embarrass its makers when it releases in theatres on June 16.

Unofficially the world’s worst special appearance ever, India’s favourite superstar rapper Baba Sehgal, who plays himself in the movie, has also created what could easily be called the world’s maddest rap song ever.

The song, with an innovative hookline that goes, ‘Bank Chor, *gibberish*, Bank Chor’, is a rap number that was created and sung by Baba impromptu during the shoot of Bank Chor (and it shows). 24 hours later, he turned it into a song with lyrics no one can get into their heads and music that no one can get out of their heads.

It seems that after the ‘Cups Challenge’ with their last song, the Bank Chors are trying the ‘Can you get this song out of your head’ challenge with this song.

The video of the song features the film’s characters Champak, Genda and Gulab trying to pull off a heist in the Bank of Baba Sehgal.

Bank Chor presents ‘Tashreef’, the most ‘kick-ass’ song of the year, featuring a hook line that’ll make everyone get up (from their bums) and take notice. An ode to the most ignored part of the human anatomy – the bum – the song is for everyone who has been kicked in the nether regions by the universe but hasn’t found a polite way of saying it. Well, the Bank Chors have obliged with a phrase that is sure to resonate with the common man: ‘Lag gayi tashreef’.

Sung and composed by Rochak Kohli and written by Adheesh Verma, the hookline of the song, ‘Lag gayi tashreef’, can also easily be the marketing slogan of Bank Chor, as it seems to be the only Bollywood film that celebrates taking its own tashreef.

The official trailer of “Bank Chor”, starring Rietesh Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Rhea Chakraborty, has been launched.

Actor Bhuvan Arora says “Bank Chor” is a light-hearted movie, but has a hidden message as well.
The film, directed by Bumpy, is a story of three people trying to rob a bank, and how they pick the worst day possible to do it. “I play Gulab, a small-time thief, who gangs up with Champak (Riteish Deshmukh) and Genda (Vikram Thapa) to rob a bank. The film is a light-hearted comic-caper, but it has a hidden message and theme as well which I can’t disclose at this point,” Bhuvan said in a statement.

“Riteish is a gem. He is very humble, entertaining and secure. There is never a dull moment with him. Patience is a virtue one must possess. Our team on the sets was like a family which made the entire process very enjoyable. I am taking friends for life from this film,” he added.

The Yash Raj Films production is based on “real bank chor”: Champak Chandrakant Chiplunkar, a simple Marathi manoos played by Riteish Deshmukh who picks the worst day possible to rob a bank.
