When news emerged that a biopic is in the works on badminton star Saina Nehwal, there was speculation on whether Deepika Padukone would play the part. But Shraddha Kapoor was finalised for it. Now a movie on P.V. Sindhu is in the making, but Deepika says she has never been approached for any biopic.

“I have never been approached for any biopic, to be honest. I do have a background in badminton, but I have never been approached for any biopic,” Deepika, daughter of celebrated badminton player Prakash Padukone, told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

The actress played her bit of badminton before venturing into modelling and films. Meanwhile, Shraddha is honoured to play Saina on screen in a movie directed by Amole Gupte. For the project on Sindhu, no official announcement regarding the lead actress has been made yet by Sonu Sood, who is producing it.

Deepika’s focus is currently on “Padmavati”, and she is looking forward to her visit to Cannes for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, which she will be attending as the newly appointed global brand ambassador for cosmetic giant L’Oréal Paris. On Friday, she launched the brand’s Cannes Collection 2017 inspired by the theme #LifeatCannes in Mumbai. She revealed that she will be attending the event on May 17 and May 18 along with international co-ambassadors Julianne Moore and Susan Sarandon among others.  From India, even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor will grace the red carpet.

Producing P.V. Sindhu biopic challenging: Sonu Sood https://glint.tv/ports/producing-p-v-sindhu-biopic-challenging-sonu-sood/ Wed, 03 May 2017 19:01:46 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=8513

Actor-turned-producer Sonu Sood, who is gearing up for his second production – a biopic on badminton player P.V.Sindhu – says that it is very challenging to produce a biopic of a 22 year old.

“Sometimes in a story there is a climax, a pre-climax and a story behind it. So sometimes you just focus on a climax and then build a story. But for me, its not the climax but the story, the journey which inspired me to make this film. And we are taking notes of people who all thought that biopics on a 21 or 22-year-old is not the right time.

“I think its more challenging for us to prove them wrong, that the film will be something that will inspire people,” said Sonu, who was present at the unveiling of the ‘Health and Nutrition’ magazine on Wednesday. The magazine cover shows Sonu flaunting his abs.

About the film, Sonu said: “Badminton is just the canvas of the film but the story is about the girl from a small town and how did she achieve her goals.”

He said that the story would be very inspirational and people will definitely connect with it.

The actor, who is one of the fittest actor in Bollywood, says: “I think fitness and doing gym should be like brushing teeth everyday in the morning as it should come automatically without any excuse.”

Sonu, who was last seen in the action-adventure comedy film “Kung Fu Yoga” opposite superstar Jackie Chan, shared his experience of working with him.

“Working with Jackie Chan was one of the most phenomenal experiences, I won’t say that he is the most grounded actor but he is the most grounded human being i have ever seen,” he said.

Sonu was recently trolled on internet for the Azaan controversy raked by singer Sonu Nigambut as people got confused between the two, targeting the “Happy New Year” actor. However, he said: “I enjoyed it. I was in Punjab and my friends called me and told me about it, I was not even aware about what was happening.”

Sonu, who had worked with Vinod Khanna, who recently died, in “Dabbang” feels blessed for the same. “I was blessed to work with Vinodji. We had spend many days together , I always used to feel that he has achieved so much and yet he had that hunger to give his best,” he said.

“I would say he was the true superstar industry was blessed with,” he added.

Sonu will be next seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmavati”, a period drama starring Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

Sania Mirza admits to Bollywood Biopic on her life https://glint.tv/ports/sania-mirza-admits-to-bollywood-biopic-on-her-life/ Wed, 01 Mar 2017 12:00:12 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=7884

Sania Mirza is the perfect blend of glamorous looks with a mean forehand on the tennis courts. And it’s no surprise that there has been reports of a Bollywood biopic based on her life, doing the rounds for quite sometime. From Sania herself going to act in it, to actress Parineeti Chopra essaying Sania on celluloid, there has been many rumours. But finally the tennis star puts all that to rest by confirming the biopic reports.

Speaking to Al Jazeera Sania admitted, “There are some talks going on, but there’s nothing concrete right now. I’m a private person, so it is a difficult ask of me to open up completely. There were some parts, even in the book, that were difficult for me to write about.”

She adds “I think we, people of the subcontinent, come from a very cricket-obsessed culture. We try to act like we are a sporting nation two months before the Olympics, Asian Games or Commonwealth Games. Until then, nobody really cares. We need to remember that we have champions outside of cricket, as well. Most sports don’t get the kind of support, help or viewership that is given to cricket. But because of movies like the ones you mentioned, the whole country realises who these people are. Bollywood is probably the biggest industry that we have. It’s one way to reach out to the masses and, actually, celebrate.”

Bollywood recently has seen a spurt of biopics based on sports stars; Mary Kom, Mohammad Azharuddin and M.S Dhoni. And it seems like Sania is next in queue for the big screen. Work for this biopic on the player has started.

It has been reported earlier that this movie will be directed by Farah khan, and Bollywood star Parineeti Chopra will play the lead. In an interview Sania Mirza had given Parineeti Chopra as her choice to play Sania Mirza in the biopic.

Cueist Pankaj Advani wants Ranbir Kapoor to act in his Biopic https://glint.tv/ports/cueist-pankaj-advani-wants-ranbir-kapoor-to-act-in-his-biopic/ Thu, 29 Dec 2016 11:39:18 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=6674

2016 saw a series of sports biopics from Cricketer M.S. Dhoni to the latest release Dangal on the Phogats. 16-time World Billiards and Snooker Champion, Pankaj Advani expressed interest in his biopic on being urged by fans on social media platform Twitter.

He wrote:

Pankaj Advani’s Story is that of grit and hard work as his mother brought him up when he lost his dad at the age of six.

“I owe all that I am today to her. The kind of struggle she went through made me believe that if someone can go through that, then anything else is possible. She is a perfect role model and I’m truly blessed to have a mother like her.”

Cue sport is not very popular in India and a biopic on the world champion would rightly shift the spotlight to some of the lesser sports in India.

Sharmila asks: Ranbir and Alia for Pataudi’s biopic? https://glint.tv/movies/sharmila-asks-ranbir-and-alia-for-pataudis-biopic/ Tue, 15 Nov 2016 05:50:12 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=5603

Recipient of two National Film awards and two Filmfare awards, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore wants a biopic to be made on her late husband cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and wonders if Ranbir and Alia could fit the roles.

“Yes, of course I would like a movie to be made on Mansoor Ali Khan. If someone really directs it properly, and with proper research, I think I would like it. I think his life has got a lot of things, about the accident, about losing his father and playing cricket with such a handicap,” Sharmila said on the red carpet of Lux Golden Rose awards on Saturday night.

When asked whom she would like to see in the role of Pataudi, the actress said, “I really don’t know. Somebody who looks like Tiger. May be Ranbir Kapoor or somebody in the family.”

But when asked whom she would like to play her on the screen, Sharmila asked, “That’s a real challenge. What about Alia Bhatt?”

Sharmila Tagore also talked about her family trust working closely with acid attack victims.

“We have a trust, Pataudi Trust, we support acid attack victims. I think as a woman and as an actor, we are so involved with the physical attributes. So I cannot imagine it as a woman, that just because someone said no, you throw acid on her, this is terrible. I am restoring their faces,” Sharmila added.

Mansoor Ali Khan, nicknamed Tiger Pataudi, is often described as India’s greatest cricket captain. He was made captain of the Indian team at the age of 21 even though several other players were more experienced.

The actress said that they have already published a book on her cricketer husband and a biography is in the pipeline.

No villain in my life, says MS Dhoni https://glint.tv/ports/no-villain-in-my-life-says-ms-dhoni/ Tue, 27 Sep 2016 19:25:22 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=3707

India’s ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who keenly awaits the release of “M. S. Dhoni: An Untold Story” — a biopic by filmmaker Neeraj Pandey — says at first he was hesitant to give a nod to the project as he thought what kind of a film can be made on him as he doesn’t have any villains in his life.

Sushant Singh Rajput starrer M.S. Dhoni biopic to release on September 2, 2016

The film, which stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the title role, has been co-produced by Dhoni’s longtime friend Arun Pandey. Dhoni, who was in the capital on Tuesday to promote the film along with Sushant, Pandey and Fox Star CEO Vijay Singh, said when Pandey came to him with idea of a biopic, he first took him lightly and felt a bit hesitant.

“I didn’t pay any attention to Arun when he came up with this idea first. But problem took place when he quickly came back and said that we have finalised the deal. So then I couldn’t back off. I thought that making the film will take a lot of time,” Dhoni said in a chat with actor and host Gaurav Kapur. “

After that I opened up and told them what I went through throughout my life. I was born in 1981 – a time when education was given more importance than sports. The good thing was that there was not much family pressure on me. It was more time management.

“This film is informative in a lot of ways because people, who know me in Ranchi, don’t know what I did in Kharagpur when I lived there for four years. After that from 2004 till now I played internationally. This movie to some extent brings everything together,” he added.

Dhoni said when he was approached for the project, he thought on what context of his life the film will be based on.

“Initially I was thinking what context they will make the movie on. There is no villain in my life. So it’s mainly about decision making and be humble in your life,” he said.

Asked whether he feels pride to be idolised by many or feels the pressure, Dhoni said: “It’s the pride factor more than pressure because I have always believed in taking control of things patiently.

“To me taking it positively is more important than taking it as a pressure. I always felt great about the fact that I come from a small city and I got a lot of love and affection there.”

“M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story”, which will release in 4,500 screens in India and around 1,000 screens abroad on Friday, will showcase Dhoni’s life from his childhood days till the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

However, Dhoni, 35, said that there should not be a sequel to the film as it will be “very controversial”. “I don’t think we should think about a sequel as it will be very controversial. After 2011 there were only controversies and nothing else (in my life). Nothing else is there. There will be only villains in it,” Dhoni said.

The film also stars Anupam Kher, Rajesh Sharma and Bhumika Chawla.

What are the chances of Sania Mirza getting into Bollywood? Well Salman Khan thinks she can make it to the film industry anytime she wants but what about Sania herself; she shares her view during the launch of her autobiography ‘Ace against Odds’. When a biopic is made on Sania, she’s not keen to play herself the role but would like either Parineeti Chopra or Deepika Padukone or Anushka Sharma to play her role. She also came out clean on the many versions floating about a biopic on her. Is Farah Khan really working on a biopic on her – clarification coming straight from the horse’s mouth, over to Sania Mirza.

While launching Sania Mirza’s autobiography ‘Ace against Odds’, Salman Khan was asked, as it’s a season of autobiography when will his fans see Salman Khan’s autobiography. To which Salman’s fun-take was that he has to take it to the grave otherwise a lot of graves will open up. May be what he really meant was ‘a lot of skeletons will tumble out of the closet’. Then Sania herself helped the media by asking Salman the inevitable wedding question, to which Salman gamely played along with the hosts’ version of 18th November.

Biopic on Salman Khan? Sultan star reveals about the project https://glint.tv/movies/biopic-on-salman-khan-sultan-star-reveals-about-the-project/ Sun, 17 Jul 2016 17:13:57 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=2692

Salman Khan is one of the most celebrated yet controversial Bollywood stars. He has seen the highs of giving some of the biggest hits, to the lows of spending time behind bars and in the court rooms.

In a season of biopics, where movies like MS Dhoni – The Untold Story and Dangal are hitting the big screens soon; there would be many takers, who would want to make a biopic on Salman’s life. A Salman Khan biopic would be worth watching, but the Sultan star thinks otherwise.

“See, my life is very boring aur boring life par koi biopic banti nahin hai (no one makes biopics on boring subjects),” Salman was quoted by an entertainment website. “Meri biopic ke andar bahut sare log mar jaayenge yaar (People will die watching my biopic).”

When asked if there is any director, who can make a biopic on his life, Salman said that he would never allow anyone to make a movie on him. The Dabang star also said there is also no actor, who can essay his role on the big screen.

“I will never give permission to anyone to make a biopic on me because for that one will have to write it down and the only one who can write it down is me or my brothers or my sisters…that too at some bits,” Salman insisted. “They also don’t know everything. And no actor can play my role.”

A biopic on the life of Salman’s best friend, Sanjay Dutt is going on the floor. The movie will be directed by Rajkumar Hirani, with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. “It will not be complete without me being part of it,” Salman said.
