Shah Rukh will be sharing the stage with a team of delegates from 150 countries which includes US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump.

One of the main attractions of this year’s GES is the Media and Entertainment segment and it will bring both the USA and India closer at the global entrepreneurship platform as Hollywood and Bollywood represent the biggest part of world cinema.

“Shah Rukh Khan is to be present on the inaugural day on November 28. We are awaiting confirmation from him,” revealed a government official, to Deccan Chronicle. The same report also suggest SRK may also be present at the cultural events and the grand dinner organised by the Government of India in the Nizam’s dining hall of the Taj Falaknuma Palace Hotel.

The Times of India reports that actor Deepika Padukone and cricketer MS Dhoni, who had been invited for the three-day event, have officially confirmed they will not attend the event due to their busy schedules. Deepika was expected to speak at a session on ‘Hollywood to Nollywood to Bollywood: The Path to Moviemaking’ on 29 November.

The NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Andhra Pradesh government, is hosting the event.

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit began its journey in 2010 to honour the initiative of then-USA President Barack Obama at Washington DC and the 2017 event will be the eighth edition. Previously, it has been hosted in Istanbul, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Marrakesh, Nairobi and the Silicon Valley.

The controversy over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s mega movie `Padmavati’ refuses to die with the royal family of Jaipur jumping on to the bandwagon. The release date of film Padmavati has been deferred. The voice of support can be heard from some corners of the Bollywood fraternity.

Karni Sena is consistently threatening Actress Deepika Padukone and Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

The Bollywood film Padmavati, based on a poem about a Rajput queen written by 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi, has sparked protests across the country over “misrepresentations” and “distortion of facts”

Responding to the controversy, leading lady Deepika Padukone said, “As a woman, as an artiste, as someone who has worked and given two years of my life to this movie, I feel hurt, I feel angry , but I also think it is extremely funny that people are reacting like this to a film. I am feeling so many emotions at this point.”

Perturbed but not silenced, Deepika, however, continues to promote the film in her capacity. While talking to DNA After Hrs, the actress said, “I have full faith in the judicial system of our country. I know no wrong will be done.” She has received protection from Mumbai police and is currently function amidst high security. Mumbai police have even warned protestors to maintain law and order and abide only by the constitutional freedom given to them.

 Actors Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, apart from directors like Mrinal Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Goutam Ghose are among the Indians invited to be a part of the Oscar Academy’s ‘Class of 2017’.

The announcement was made on Wednesday.

“We’re proud to invite our newest class to the Academy. The entire motion picture community is what we make of it,” Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, was quoted as saying on the official Oscar website.

“It’s up to all of us to ensure that new faces and voices are seen and heard, and to take a shot on the next generation the way someone took a shot on each of us,” Isaacs added.

There are 774 new members from 57 countries — a record-breaking number.

The Oscar Academy has noted not just a 359 per cent increase in women invited to join the Academy from 2015-2017, but also a marked rise in people of colour invited — signifying the diversity it was embracing.

From India, there are also actors Irrfan Khan and Salman Khan, Indian costume designer Arjun Bhasin, directors and writers like Anand Patwardhan and Sooni Taraporevala.

Even India-born Mohit Kallianpur and Mahesh Ramasubramanian, who have worked in animation and visual effects of Hollywood films like “Frozen” and “Shrek” respectively, are a part of the exhaustive list.

Among other international high-profile actors newly invited to the Academy are “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot, “Moonlight” Oscar nominee Naomie Harris, Donald Glover, Chris Hemsworth, Riz Ahmed, Adam Driver, Dwayne Johnson, Leslie Jones, Betty White, Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris, Margot Robbie, Channing Tatum, Kristen Stewart, Shailene Woodley, Ruth Negga, and Rupert Grint.

Directors include Barry Jenkins, Jordan Peele, David Ayer, Theodore Melfi and the Russo brothers.

The new members invited are part of seven branches — actors, casting directors, costume designers, designers, documentary, executives and film editors.

Actress Deepika Padukone will share screen space with Irrfan Khan once again after “Piku” for Vishal Bhardwaj’s yet untitled production. The filmmaker says the actress is a “rare” combination of a superstar and good actor.

“I think Deepika is one the finest actresses that we have in the country. She is combination of superstar and good actor. It’s a rare combination that a performer is a superstar and at the same time has great acting abilities. Deepika is one of them,” Bhardwaj said at a screening of short film “Kajal” in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The film will be directed by Honey Trehan who is a casting director and assistant director known for “Omkara”, “Udta Punjab” and “Kaminey”.

“I am more excited for my friend Honey Trehan who has been with me for last 20 years and he is very lucky that in his first film itself, he has got such fabulous cast. I am so happy and excited to produce this film. The film will go on floors in January,” Bhardwaj added.

The Irrfan and Deepika starrer is based on one of the chapters from S. Hussain Zaidi’s book “Mafia Queens of Mumbai”. Deepika will essay the role of feared mafia don Rahima Khan popularly known as Sapna Didi, while Irrfan will play a local gangster.

Deepika will be working with Vishal for the first time and will start shooting for the film after completing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmavati”.

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone let her hair loose – literally – as she stepped out in a jewel-toned maroon creation by Marchesa Notte for her red carpet appearance at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday.

She walked before the screening of French director Arnaud Desplechin’s “Les Fantomes d’Ismael”.

Deepika, one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood currently, is representing global cosmetic giant L’Oreal Paris at the film jamboree for the first time. She also mingled with the brand’s co-ambassadors Julianne Moore, Susan Sarandon and Elle Fanning before leaving for the red carpet.

With her tresses left open, she looked exquisite as she exuded confidence and elan in her one-shoulder floor-sweeping dress. The intricate embroidery lent a traditional touch to the ensemble, while the layering in tulle gave her a sensual look.

She teamed it up with Jimmy Choo heels and De Grisogono jewellery — danglers in her ears and a cocktail ring which stood out. Adding a dash of edgy glamour to her look, Deepika sported a bold Plum Blossom lip colour and her eyes were done up with eyeliner and mascara.

Deepika, who has an impressive filmography in Indian cinema with titles like “Bajirao Mastani” and “Piku”, won her claim to fame in the international world with “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” earlier this year.

Ahead of her Cannes outing, Deepika had told IANS: “What is the red carpet without having fun? I know there is a lot of focus on the clothes, the hair and the make-up, but from all of that, I think the most important thing is that everyone who walks that red carpet must have fun with all of that and that experience.”

That’s what she seems to be doing from snapshots that have emerged from the fest.

Earlier in the day, the actress was seen chilling at a beach here in a red dress, and later she sported a Galvan London ensemble and Louboutin shoes with jewellery by Messika, for a photocall.

She took to Instagram to share a shot with the azure blue waters of the French Riveira in the backdrop.

“Taking it all in… Cannes 2017,” she said in her caption.

Deepika will make yet another appearance at the gala on Thursday.

Later in the week, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor will also make it to the red carpet.

Actress Deepika Padukone, who has been mistaken for Priyanka Chopra by the foreign media in the US multiple times, says it’s racist and ignorant for people to assume that people with similar skin tones are the same. A video doing the rounds on social media shows a foreign paparazzo constantly referring to Deepika as “Priyanka, Priyanka” while she makes her way out of an airport in the US.

Deepika, who made her Hollywood debut with the Vin Diesel starrer “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” earlier this year, has strong views about facing this ‘identity crisis’ and about how the Indian media needs to deal with it maturely. In an interview to IANS over phone from Mumbai, the actress said: “To me, it’s racist and ignorant. And as a fellow Indian, you (the media) should also be not very happy about. I think just because people have similar skin tones, doesn’t mean they are same people. As people in a place of power that the media has, instead of creating a tabloid piece out of it, people should be educating them further.”

Just back from attending the famed fashion fiesta Met Gala 2017 in New York, Deepika is now looking forward to visit the French Riviera. She will attend the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on May 17-18 as a brand ambassador for cosmetic giant L’Oreal Paris. “I am very very excited. I am looking forward to the entire experience of being there and taking it all in,” said the actress, who had last attended the fest in 2010 for another brand. I would happily forget that experience maybe, and start afresh,” quipped Deepika, who doesn’t wish to reveal her two looks for the Cannes red carpet appearance just as yet.

Earlier this week, she stepped out in a white Tommy Hilfiger gown for the Met Gala in a look which didn’t find much appreciation by the international foreign police. But Deepika is not bothered — she says being on the red carpet is all about having fun. “I’ve had an amazing team of people that help me put my look together, and sometimes people might like it, sometimes they may not. And that’s completely okay. The idea is really to have fun with every experience that I’ve had and I think the only time I will worry about not being appreciated about my look, is when my mother or my girlfriends tell me so,” said the 31-year-old.

At the Cannes red carpet, where Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor will also make a fashion statement, Deepika is looking forward to have plain “fun”. “What is the red carpet without having fun? It’s the 70th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, and no Indian film is on the list. So, apart from government officials at the Indian Pavilion at gala, only the three actresses and beauty icons will be representing the country at the platform. “I think that’s an achievement in itself,” Deepika said, adding: “But having said that, I think for me the two things are completely different. I feel proud that we have Indians who can represent not just at Cannes, but the world over, who represent us as a community and as a country in different walks of life.”

“Yes, being an actor, one always looks forward to a film going to Cannes as well. In fact, Sanjay (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) and I have been speaking about it for years… We wanted to take ‘Bajirao Mastani’ to Cannes. When it comes to taking Indian films to Cannes, he has done it in the past (‘Devdas’) and he has done it beautifully,” said the actress, who features as the central character of the filmmaker’s next movie “Padmavati”.
