In April 2017, just over four months after giving birth to her son Taimur Ali Khan — Kareena Kapoor Khan will bounce back to face the cameras for “Veere Di Wedding”. She says she can easily see herself balancing her work and family as women are masters at multi-tasking.

Kareena gave birth to her first child with actor Saif Ali Khan in December.

Asked how she plans to balance work and motherhood, Kareena said: “I have always balanced my work and my marriage. People thought that I wouldn’t, and I did. I am going to continue to do that. I think women know how to multi-task.”

“Today, you see working women out there. If you have a family, if you have a child… It doesn’t mean you are home-bound. Of course, there is time for that and work.”

The 36-year-old actress, who maintained her style quotient during the nine months that she carried Taimur and continued to be active at endorsement-related events and social gatherings, is loving this phase of her life.

“I am taking it each day as it comes. I think it’s the most beautiful phase of my life,” said Kareena.

Having said that, she agrees “parenthood comes with a lot of responsibility”.

“Both Saif and me are ready for this kind of responsibility,” she added.

Whether it was during her pregnancy or after delivering her baby, Kareena didn’t keep away from limelight. She walked the ramp as a showstopper with her baby bump, and again, after Taimur came into her life, her post-pregnancy frame didn’t keep her from taking to the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) ramp again.

“It’s not about proving a point,” she explained, adding: “It was just something I wanted to do. It was something I believed in that I have nothing to hide. When I got married, it was the most beautiful phase. Pregnancy was the most normal thing that was going to happen and giving birth to a child is as normal as ever.”

“I want life to go on,” added Kareena, who walked as the showstopper for ace designer Anita Dongre at the grand finale of LFW Summer/Resort 2017 earlier this month.

Kareena, daughter of veteran actor Randhir Kapoor and Babita, says she doesn’t want people to look at what she did as anything different.

“Because it isn’t. The only thing different is that we are just happy, we have an addition in our home,” she said.

On the work front, Kareena is prepping for the upcoming film “Veere Di Wedding”, which also stars actresses Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar.

“We are going to start the work in April,” she said, adding that she has begun her workout regime. And she is focussed for two months “to get into the best shape of my life and then start the film”.

“Right now the best thing in my kitty… I think the world knows,” she added.

Designer Amit Aggarwal, who will showcase his latest line at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Summer/Resort 2017 here, considers Bollywood stars as an important influence in setting fashion trends across the country.

“Bollywood is one of the few things that run the major chunk of entertainment business in our country. It also has a huge potential of educating people regarding new social concepts. This makes it an important influencing factor for the minds of a huge population of a country like India,” Aggarwal told in an interview.

The designer feels if a Bollywood celebrity flaunts one’s creation, it helps give the label a push.

“Engaging with Bollywood for a fashion label like ours is always an interesting affair. A celebrity in our clothes is a role model for a whole lot of women who wish to dress new and fresh,” he added.

Overall, Aggarwal feels there has been a great change in the fashion scene in India.

He believes the fashion fraternity has taken forward the legacy of Indian bridal couture by amalgamating it with fresh techniques and cuts.

“A generation of designers has taken forward the legacy of Indian bridal couture with new techniques and silhouettes every season, inspired from a sari or lehenga to give their audiences fresh options to wear for different wedding occasions.

“On the other hand, we also see this wave of contemporary designers who are conscious of sustainable design practices that range from using organically cultivated textiles, recycling materials, zero waste design implementations.”

At the same time, he finds that the involvement of Indian crafts by designers at a global level has kept the country on the world map in the international fashion scene.

“It’s an interesting setting for a diverse country like India with so many possibilities for designers to take inspirations from.”

At LFW, which got underway here on Wednesday, the designer has collaborated with Lakme Salon.

“The AM.IT X Lakme Salon collection to be showcased at LFW S/R 2017, derives inspiration from millions of unusable, unclaimed pieces of heritage,” he said.

Talking about the collection, he said: “There will be a series of 25 to 30 ensembles. The colours of the collection are that of a traditional Patola like wine, rust, teal, olive, khaki, mustard and ink blue and similar metallic tones to accentuate them.”

Aggarwal is known for his style of 3D structure with drapes. How does he balance between his signature look and at the same time recreate new looks?

“Our collections are always a combination of our signature silhouettes developed according to the ethos for the particular season and a number of fresh looks that are newly developed according to the collection’s theme.”

This balance is vital for the economic and creative growth of the label, added the designer, who has catered to Bollywood clients like Huma Qureshi, Dia Mirza, Karisma Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri.

Kareena will flaunt a bespoke creation by celebrated designer Anita Dongre, whose line finds inspiration in Lakme’s ‘Liquid Gold’ collection.

The actress, who is the face of Lakme Absolute says she is glad to walk for Dongre, who will be showcasing her collection on February 5 at the Jio Garden here.

“It’s always a pleasure representing Lakmé at the most spectacular Grand Finale. And, this year as well, I am glad to go back to Lakmé Fashion Week and walk for Anita. I am looking forward to see how she is going to transform the ‘Liquid Gold’ theme on the runway”, Kareena said in a statement.

“Kareena has been an absolute role model through her pregnancy and shortly after the arrival of her baby boy, she now returns to her favourite role as showstopper for the Lakmé grand finale in February. LFW would’ve missed our golden girl.

“And Kareena wears the brand ambassador crown for Anita Dongre’s label AND as well as Lakmé, so her return to this season’s finale runway will be a doubly magical occasion,” Purnima Lamba, Head of Innovation, Lakmé added.

Fashion industry keen to explore young talent: Gen Next designers of LFW https://glint.tv/lifestyle/fashion-industry-keen-to-explore-young-talent-gen-next-designers-of-lfw/ Fri, 06 Jan 2017 09:19:19 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=6856

The Indian fashion industry is flourishing over the year and it’s now become easy for young talent to find space in the industry, say the Gen Next designers of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) who are going to showcase at the forthcoming Summer-Resort 2017 edition.

Pallavi Singh, Nakita Singh, Soumodeep Dutta, Ishanee Mukherjee & Anirudh Chawla, and Resham Karmchandani and Sanya Suri are the five names who have been selected to showcase their creativity at the fashion week platform that is scheduled to take place from Feb 1- 5 at JioGarden, Bandra-Kurla Complex.

For these young faces, finding their own path in the industry has become easier now.

Resham and Sanya of the label The Pot Plant, feel that “every new start up in any industry is challenging and the same goes for fashion industry as well”

“But there are more opportunities now and more platforms to present your own design language and if the aesthetics and concept are unique the industry is welcoming,” Resham told IANS.

Added Sanya: “The fashion industry is more receptive now. There has been a paradigm shift in how people perceive labels now. As an industry, we are more open to new talent now and individual design aesthetics. Experimental, minimal, or classic clothing, the realms are co-existing now and it is more about individualism and what resonates with you as an individual.”

Gen Next programme, which has given the Indian fashion industry names like Rahul Mishra, Masaba Gupta and Nachiket Barve, is now set to groom its 23rd batch with five promising designers who have been chosen by the members of the LFW advisory board.

Anirudh and Ishanee of the label Poochki, being one of the young names, aggress with the fact that there is no dearth of opportunities for young designers today.

“The fashion industry is flourishing over the years. Dedication and innovation is the key to success in this very competitive industry. We can see a change in the mindset of the consumer. The modern-day consumer is an informed customer and is responsive to good design, and not only to “bling”. We can see Pret’ coming in a big way,” Anirudh told IANS.

Ishanee feels that with platforms such as the Gen-Next programme for budding designers, it is apparent that the industry is keen to explore young talent.

For Nakita, every sphere needs consistency, patience, and hard work to make a space for oneself and the same goes for a young and emerging designer.

Dutta, another new name who is set to venture into the industry, young designers come out with a spirit of youth, creativity, and freedom and hence he feels that “space is never there, you have to stretch boundaries and create your own space.”

However he feels that there are more opportunities for new designers today than few years ago. “Nevertheless, the competition has also multiplied. Today, Fashion is a necessity. Customisation has created a need for more designers to cater to the huge population. Multi designer stores also play an important role in supporting young designers who cannot start with a store of their own. The support nowadays is huge, you only need to arrive with your originality and innovation,” he told IANS.

Finally for Pallavi, who runs a label called ARCVSH, “People are quite open to change these days. Look at designers like Anavila, Payal Kahndwala who have made a mark in the industry in such a short span of time”

Lakme Fashion Week and Ensemble celebrates with Indian Kabaddi team https://glint.tv/lifestyle/lakme-fashion-week-and-ensemble-celebrates-with-indian-kabaddi-team/ Fri, 11 Nov 2016 06:00:34 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=5532

Lakme Fashion Week, in association with multi-designer retail store Ensemble, hosted an evening  to celebrate sports and fashion with the World Cup champion Indian Kabaddi players and leading menswear designers.

“In India, though we celebrate sports but whether it is with cricket, badminton and tennis, we never turned the spotlight on kabaddi. So when Lakme and IMG Reliance came with the idea, we just grabbed the opportunity. We recently launched our menswear store and working with lots of young designers. So I think, this is the right occasion to celebrate,” fashion designer Tina Tahiliani told IANS.

Five players from the national team – Surender Nada, Mohit Chillar, Shabeer Bapu Sharfudheen, Vishal Mane and Rishank Devadiga – walked the ramp for famous designers like Gaurav Khanijo, Pranav Mishra of Huemn, Ujjwal Dubey of Antar Agni, Tarun Tahiliani and Sahil Aneja.

As these kabbadi champions rocked the ramp in designer ensembles, Tina said: “I have been asked why am I doing it with these players instead of real celebrities. Well, all these players are making our country proud by winning the championship. For me, anyone who is so accomplished is a celebrity.”

This is the first time that Mane walked the ramp. Admitting to a mixed feeling of excitement and nervousness, he said: “It is very different from our game. We are always well prepared and practiced for our game. However, here, it is very spontaneous on stage. I am honored to wear cloths designed by such a great designers. It feels good.”

While Pranav chose the weather friendly material and comfort in mind when designed leisure wears for these players, Dubey who designed for Antar Agni aimed to enhance the personality through his design.

Talking about his design, Pranav told IANS that he was “very happy to design for these champions and sharing my design philosophy on their cloths”.

“This kind of collaboration merges both the industry – sports and fashion. An interaction between two fraternities starts from here, as in people who are alienated from the sports with get to know about it and sports personalities will also get a great exposure to fashion. However, the result will come in an organic way with time.”

Adding to the thought, Dubey said: “Apart from business, it is also about the fraternisation. Through this collaboration, we tried to appreciate the effort of each other’s fraternity. So it is great to be a part of a cause where Lakme Fashion Week is collaborating with a multi designer store like Ensemble.”

Ensemble, known for supporting and mentoring new age designers, is adding a value to the business in fashion industry. Tina said: “As a store, we are supporting many young designers and I think that is very important for them to get such support, exposures and mentor-ship from a store. Therefore, I think we are playing an important role in the fashion industry by introducing these young designers. On the other hand, because it is a multi-designer store and we work with veterans, it gives more credibility to the youngsters who are sharing the same platform with them.”

While western clothes are mainly preferred for sportswear, according to Tina, it is the attitude that matters the most. “You can wear a malmal handloom sari and treat it in a sporty way, because it is not the cloth that you wear makes you sporty but your attitude does. When you are wearing sari, be cool with it, do not be conscious, and let it be. It is your mind and body confidence that makes you cool!”

Shraddha, Sushant steal thunder at Malhotra’s LFW gala show https://glint.tv/movies/shraddha-sushant-steal-thunder-at-malhotras-lfw-gala-show/ Thu, 25 Aug 2016 15:52:10 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=3188

It was a show with a difference as ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra took a digital leap on the opening day of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Winter/Festive 2016 with Bollywood’s young faces — Shraddha Kapoor and Sushant Singh Rajput — walking for him.

Malhotra took the digital route for the show on Wednesday here in association with Etihad Airways. Malhotra unveiled festive glamour collection at the LFW runway, that began at St. Regis Hotel. However, the designer’s offsite show at ITC Grand Central was no less of a treat.

What was unique about the Malhotra’s show this time was that it will premiere as a Virtual Reality experience after the fashion gala. So, the LFW ramp got a glimpse of the virtual aspect in a very sparkling way.

The fashion house showcased its signature resham threadwork, clustered sequins and intricate hand-embroidery on dramatic trails and off-shoulder capes, alongside floral motifs.

There were jacket-saris; lehengas paired with sheer crop blouses and draped dupattas on contemporary anarkalis. Elaborately detailed long tunics worn over cigarette pants and flowing backless gowns effortlessly brought the classic and contemporary style together.

On other aspects of the event, there was some dissatisfaction over the seating arrangement as those sitting at the back were heard complaining about not getting a proper view, but fashion enthusiasts who saw the entire range were left mesmerised with the designer’s creativity.

The designer infused extra glamour quotient on the ramp with Sushant and Shraddha, especially the former, who was glad to walk for Malhotra.

“I was excited and nervous at the same time, but who doesn’t want to walk for Manish Malhotra, and I did it. I have four sisters and all are fans of his; including me, so, today I am standing here with his clothes on. Life can’t be better than this,” Sushant told reporters after show.

For Shraddha, it was a dream come true. “I always dreamt of walking for him one day. When I was in Cape Town, Manish called me and asked if I will walk for his show tonight and I took no time to say yes. I landed here and came directly for his show,” she said.

Talking about her outfit, the actress said: “This dress is so awesome, beautiful and gorgeous.” She wore a lehanga teamed up with an embroidered blouse.

There was a glamorous edge to the range with statement accessories, including bejewelled belts and pill-box clutches. Crafted in silks, sheer net and lace — in hues of pure white, baby pink, lime green, lilac, Champagne nude, metallic grey and honey mustard — the ensembles were worn with fine jewellery by Anmol Jewellers.

For the modern gentleman, the collection presented textured velvet bandhgalas, structured jackets and vests paired with Jodhpur pants. The elegant outfits were styled with pocket-squares, jewelled buttons and embroidered silk scarves. And Sushant, who was making his ramp debut, was walked the runway in one of these looks.

Speaking about the collection, Malhotra said: “Lakme Fashion Week is very special to me — both my label and my association with LFW turn 11 this year. Label MANISH MALHOTRA is also the first Indian brand to present a Virtual Reality experience with Etihad Airways.”

There was a big Bollywood turnout yet again to support the designer and his showstopper and some of the faces included Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Dia Mirza, Padmini Kolhapure, Krishika Lulla, Ashish Chaudhary and his wife, Shraddha Kapoor’s brother Siddhanth Kapoor and many more.

Karan Kundra, along with his girlfriend Anusha Dandekar, were also enjoying the show. They were spotted cuddling each other with Anusha sitting at Karan’s lap and clicking pictures of the glittering new collection.
