The trailer of ‘Carbon’ has been released and it’s being touted as the first official Hindi science-fiction film. This movie is not an imitation of a Hollywood film, it’s our desi version.

‘Carbon’  is a futuristic short film set in 2067. The film is about trading of oxygen, just like the trading of gold, drugs and petrol. The film comes at a time when climate change has become such a big concern.

It stars Jackky Bhagnani, Nawazzudin Siddiqui, Prachi Desai in pivotal roles. The first look of all the three actors have been released and we must say that they look terrific. Jackky plays the role of a man with an artificial heart. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays as a man from Mars.

The short film is aimed at creating awareness about environmental issues.

“Carbon”, which is written and directed by Maitrey Bajpai and Ramiz Ilham Khan, will soon release on Large Short Film’s YouTube channel.

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has shot for lovemaking scenes for the first time in his upcoming film “Babumoshai Bandookbaaz”, says he was very conscious and nervous during the filming.
The National Award-winning actor was present on Tuesday at the trailer launch of the film with the cast and director of the movie.

Asked about his experience of doing intimate scenes onscreen, Nawazuddin told the media in Mumbai: “Yes, I have done intimate scenes for the first time, so I was quite nervous to do such scenes. You feel good and nervous at the same time… It’s not that fun when you are doing a scene… You focus on the scene and not on other things.”

Known for his realistic acting for which he has been lauded film after film, Nawazuddin also said he prefers playing characters with grey shades.

“I do not like a character that is either an extreme villain or a hero. But I think that as time goes by, things are changing. These days, even heroes are playing characters with grey shades because I believe grey characters are more real. There are bad and good characteristics in all of us,” said the actor, who is very conscious abut his choice of role.

Directed by Kushan Nandy, “Babumoshai Bandookbaaz” — slated to release on August 25 — is a rustic drama. It also features Bidita Bag, Jatin Goswami and Divya Dutta.

‘Mom’: Riveting with strong performances (Review) https://glint.tv/movies/mom-riveting-with-strong-performances-review/ Fri, 07 Jul 2017 09:47:00 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=9627

Film: “Mom”; Director: Ravi Udyawar; Cast: Sridevi, Akshaye Khanna, Adnan Siddiqui, Sajal Ali, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pitobash and Abhimanyu Singh

Rating: ***1/2

This fictionalised revenge drama has the same template as the recently released Raveena Tandon starrer “Maatr”.

Here, the story focuses on Devki Sabharwal, a biology teacher who reprimands her student Mohit when he sends his classmate Arya an objectionable video clip. It is later revealed that Devi is also Arya’s step-mom and there are acceptability issues between the two.

On Valentine’s Day, Arya goes with her classmates to a party in a rural farmhouse where she rejects Mohit’s overtures and soon finds herself hospitalised. A police case ensues and after the investigators fail to deliver Arya justice, Devki takes the reins in her hands. This forms the crux of the tale.

Astutely and sensitively mounted, the film begins with promise. The plot is taut and every scene is well-crafted. The tracks in the film are sensitively handled — be it the mother-daughter relationship, the brutal attack, the post-traumatic agony or the father-daughter relationship.

Despite the suspense elements that keep you glued, the cookie crumbles because of the cinematic liberties taken, especially in deliberately centre-staging the actors be it Sridevi, Akshaye Khanna or Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

This is Sridevi’s three hundredth film and solely her canvas. She delivers her character passionately with her distinctive histrionics. You are one with her in her grief, but when it comes to the revenge bit, you distance yourself and ridicule the path. Nevertheless, she is convincing.

Akshaye Khanna, with his inimitable swagger, is wasted in the one-dimensional role of Mathew Samuel, the investigating crime branch officer. He has nothing much to offer.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the private detective Dayashankar Kapoor aka DK, with an interesting get-up initially seems walking through his character with witty one-liners. But over a period, you realise that his efforts are subtle and worth a mention.

Sajal Ali as Arya is fresh and exuberant. She delivers her part with solemn gusto.

Adnan Siddiqui as Devki’s husband Anand Sabharwal is charming and earnest, but again the script does not permit him to shine.

The others who create an impact are Pitobash as the watchman Baburao, Abhimanyu Singh as the henchman Jagan Singh and the characters who play Mohit and his cousin Charles Diwan. They all have their moments of onscreen glory.

With excellent production values, cinematographer Anay Goswami’s frames are glossy and aesthetically captured. One of the outstanding scenes is the top angle shot of the car moving on the deserted road at night. This visual, accompanied by A.R. Rahman’s brilliant music, is haunting and is easily one of the highlights of the film.

Nawazuddin, Rishi Kapoor bury the hatchet with exchange on twitter https://glint.tv/movies/nawazuddin-rishi-kapoor-bury-the-hatchet-with-exchange-on-twitter/ Wed, 19 Apr 2017 12:34:27 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=8334

After feuding in 2014 over his harsh comments on romantic films in bollywood, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui on Wednesday said it was amazing to share screen space with veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.

“It was indeed a pleasure sharing the screen with Rishi Kapoor. What an amazing energy you possess even now,” Nawazuddin tweeted.

Rishi was himself cordial in his response, appreciating the working liaison and thanking Nawazuddin. “Did that bit for Nandita Das and “Manto” -title role played by you. We will have fun working together in the future,” he responded.

Nawazuddin is currently filming for Nandita Das’s “Manto”, in which he plays the controversial writer Saadat Hasan Manto.

Realism of co-actors reflects in my ‘Raees’ performance: SRK https://glint.tv/movies/realism-of-co-actors-reflects-in-my-raees-performance-srk/ Thu, 19 Jan 2017 11:03:00 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=7204

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan says his co-actors in “Raees” come from a “real world of acting” and this helped him deliver a more realistic performance in the upcoming film.

The Rahul Dholakia directed starrer features Pakistani actress Mahira Khan as his leading lady. It also has Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in vital roles.

Shah Rukh has worked with all three of them for the first time.

Talking about his experience of working with them, he told the media here: “They all come from a real world of acting. They haven’t done cinema as popular as I have done. For me to play Raees, it was important to be surrounded by people who approached the scene very realistically.

“Mahira, Nawaz or Zeeshan approached the scenes very differently than what I used to do. When they performed, their realism got reflected in my performance. This is the reason we wanted to cast new people, who haven’t acted with me before, in the film.”

“Raees” is releasing on January 25. Shah Rukh will also feature in Imtiaz Ali’s film with Anushka Sharma and in a cameo in Salman Khan starrer “Tubelight”.

]]> Haraamkhor Review: A stark story of a minor girl’s abuse mounted a tad amateurishly https://glint.tv/movies/haraamkhor-review-a-stark-story-of-a-minor-girls-abuse-mounted-a-tad-amateurishly/ Sat, 14 Jan 2017 06:34:51 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=7003

Rating: **

Film: “Haraamkhor”; Director: Shlok Sharma; Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shweta Tripathi, Trimala Adhikari;

Designed as an art house film, “Haraamkhor”, is a slice of life projecting the abuse of minor girls in rural India.

With precisely two shots of dark clouds with a silver lining in an otherwise hazy skyline, the film does not offer any hope or resolution to the problem that it referenced in the opening frame of the narrative, but instead, starkly presents a stray case.

The story primarily revolves around a debauched school teacher, Shyam Tekchand (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and his students Kamal, Mintu and Sandhya.

Kamal is infatuated with Sandhya and he is prodded into believing by his buddy Minty that he would one day marry Sandhya. So while Kamal plans ways to propose to Sandhya, Shyam, who is already married to one of his ex-students, lusts for Sandhya and how he manages to entice her, forms the crux of the tale.

With blunt scenes, Director Shlok Sharma’s plot is simple and one dimensional but it effectively succeeds in capturing the lives of its grey characters with absurd precision.

The narration meanders at a leisurely pace and the entire narrative arc hinges on a forced mysterious note.

The first half aimlessly tries to establish the lives of the characters and dramatically ends before breaking for interval. The second half though repetitive, catches your attention as it picks up momentum, but it is the climax that takes an absurd twist and leaves the audience dissatisfied and thus does not move you.

On the performance front, Nawazuddin as usual is down to earth and ordinary. He plays the unscrupulous teacher, to perfection, but unfortunately he does not raise the bar of his own performance delivery. He is aptly supported by Trimala Adhikari as his wife Sunita.

With a realistic demeanour, Shwetha Tripathi who was earlier seen in “Masaan”, essays the role of Sandhya with natural ease and is convincing. But it is Master Mohammad Samad as Mintu and Master Irfan Khan as Kamal, who steal the show with their pranks and camaraderie. Their conversations and mischiefs infuse humour in an otherwise drab narrative.

Made on a shoe-string budget and shot on real locales, the film is well mounted with moderate production values. Mayur Sharma’s production designs are definitely worth a mention.

Cinematographer Siddharth Diwan’s camera work is unsteady and his frames are basic. The visuals and the sound is effectively layered by Editor Kratika Adhikari, but the jerky transitions and abrupt scenes, leave a lot to assume and thus make the film seem a tad amateurish.

Nawazuddin to dance alongside Tiger Shroff in ‘Munna Michael’ https://glint.tv/movies/nawazuddin-to-dance-alongside-tiger-shroff-in-munna-michael/ Tue, 03 Jan 2017 12:23:14 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=6773

National Award winning actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui says he took up a role in “Munna Michael” — in which actor Tiger Shroff pays tribute to his dancing icon Michael Jackson — to overcome his fear of dancing.

Nawazuddin says he has never attempted to dance in front of the camera, despite being in the industry for over 15 years.

“I will be seen dancing in ‘Munna Michael’. I signed that film because I was scared of dancing and wanted to overcome that fear. So, I took it as a challenge. I have never danced on screen. In fact, I have never danced in my real life too… like in parties.”

“I used to think how these actors can dance onscreen. But I wanted to overcome that fear, so I joined that film,” he added.

“Munna Michael”, which will be directed by Sabbir Khan, will also feature Ronit Roy and Nidhhi Agerwal.

Nawazuddin will next be seen in “Haraamkhor”, which has been directed by Shlok Sharma and is slated to release on January 13.
