Actress-producer Priyanka Chopra, who has done some bold scenes in the American series “Quantico”, says she doesnt like to sensationalise stories into sexuality.

Asked about the apprehension she faced while doing bold scenes, Priyanka told media persons here on Wednesday: “I haven’t done anything more than what is shown here in Hindi films. I am an actor and I don’t like sensationalising stories into sexuality… so, it just becomes a big deal.”

“I have my limitation and people over there know that. In Hollywood, I have only done what I have done in Hindi films. I keep my standard same for everything,” she added.

She is now set to make her Hollywood debut with “Baywatch” as the antagonist Victoria Leeds.

What’s the general scenario in Hollywood and Bollywood for female actors?

She said: “I feel the world is male-dominated, whether it’s in India or abroad. Outside India, there is also same fight of equality for women as much as it is here in India.”

“Entire world… over the years has told women that they are second class citizens all their lives. Even in films, male actors are given reverence but with female actors, we have reached a stage where female actors have crossed Rs 100 crore-mark at the box office. It was achieved by Kangana Ranaut and it is the biggest achievement.”

She highlighted that earlier, women-centric films never got good openings.

“But my film ‘Fashion’ and ‘Mary Kom’ did extremely well at the box office. Today, female actors are having their best time in the film industry. In the coming years, there are chances that female-centric films touch Rs 200 crore mark but for that, the audience’s mindset has to change.

“People should come and watch good films and shouldn’t think whether it’s a male or female-centric film,” said the “Jai Gangaajal” actress.

She also wants Indian and south Asian talent to get represented in global cinema.

“We are one-fifth of the world population, but very few Indian actors are seen in international cinema. So, I want to take on roles which are not written for Indian actors,” she said.

Priyanka also revealed that her “Baywatch” character was originally written for a man, a really big Hollywood star, but she cannot reveal anything more about it.

“Slowly actors like Dev Patel, who are south Asian from Britain, are changing trends by bagging good roles in Hollywood. Ten years back there was a phase when a lot of Latin artistes came together — Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin and more.”

“They all came in a group. So why can’t we? It’s great to have such representations. Hence, I am trying not to do stereotypical roles but trying my best to represent my origin and my culture. So, it’s a fight. We have to stand up as people and try if we want to be in the entertainment business,” added the former Miss World.

She also spoke about Indian celebrities getting trolled online.

“I feel that media gives undue importance to tweets made by celebrities or other influential people. My each tweet becomes a news article. I have over 17 million followers on Twitter and when they see it, then there is no need to make news about that,” she said.

“If media starts giving importance to that, it becomes a controversy. Everyone has the right to opinion and my parents have taught me not to be afraid, to voice our opinion and that is what I want to teach the next generation.

“Each person has an opinion and there is nothing right or wrong about it. It is about perspective of people and we should respect that and not be judgemental,” she added.

Talking about working with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, she said: “We have spoken about other films, but not for ‘Padmavati’. I’m sure it will look beautiful.”

“Padmavati” stars Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

Israeli director Gideon Raff has heaped praise on the “absolutely wonderful” Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, who is making waves in the West with “Quantico”. He says he enjoyed directing her for one of the episodes of the American TV show.

Raff, best known for Israeli TV drama “Hatufim” and its acclaimed US adaptation, “Homeland”, spoke about TV trends and more during a panel discussion at the Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival with Star here on Tuesday. “I directed an episode of ‘Quantico’. I had fun directing Priyanka. She is absolutely wonderful,” said Raff.

He also stressed on the importance of reinventing series so that people don’t lose interest.

Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani, who is coming up with “P.O.W. Bandi Yuddh Ke!”, an Indian adaptation of “Hatufim”, said: “For me, there are plus and minus sides to it. The hardest thing is the writing process. How do you start from zero and then build it? When you have something to start from, it really helps.”

“For us as the writing team, because we had ‘Hatufim’ which is so universally relevant as an emotion, half of the battle has been won over there. The minus side is, if Gideon watches one episode and says ‘You just messed it up!’ So, there is a responsibility.”

But Gideon is simply happy that his show is getting numerous versions. “The idea, that a show I did very locally in Israel and thought was for a very small market, somehow found itself becoming a big American show and now an Indian show, is great. We are doing South Korean, Russian and Argentinian versions.”

“It is an amazing experience. It would be wrong for me to think that they need my help in adapting it. The idea is to take it and turn it into your own. I am just going to be a big fan of the show,” he added.

The former Miss World said: “I’ve always been apolitical. I’m an Indian and I don’t have a dog in this fight. I do have opinions, though, definitely.

Priyanka, who juggles between her professional life in India and the US, considers herself a nomad.

She spends a lot of time up in the air traveling between the two countries — and for her, it’s her favourite time.

“I use it to sleep, especially on the 16-hour Mumbai-Los Angeles flight. You can sleep eight hours and still have eight hours when you wake up.

“I read scripts and decide what films I’m going to do. And I usually land and head straight to work,” Priyanka said and added that she has nine passports as she is on at least six flights a month.

Which city would she pick as home — Mumbai, New York or Los Angeles?

“I’m more of a West Coast kind of girl. I like the chill of LA. But I’m a nomad. And look at the world we live in today, we can literally get on a plane, go somewhere for five hours, have lunch, and come back.

“Why do you have to commit? I have commitment issues anyway,” quipped the National Award winner, who even said that her “weird, ostentatious dreams” include owning a plane.

The magazine featuring Priyanka’s interview will be out on stands on October 15.

Popular Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra says auditioning for TV series “Quantico” was “weird” for her, but she gave it her best shot and landed the lead role. Priyanka, best known for her roles in Bollywood films like “Andaaz”, “Fashion”, “7 Khoon Maaf” and “Bajirao Mastani”, appeared on chat show “Good Morning America” and shared that “Quantico” was the first time for her to endure the pressures of auditioning, reports dailymail.co.uk.
“When I picked ‘Quantico’ as a script, I had to meet them and they had to meet me and I had to do a reading,” Priyanka said after stating that auditioning for actors is not common in India.
“I had never been in a stare-out room with seven people sitting there and had to perform. It was such a weird thing for an actor to do,” she added.
The 34-year-old, who plays the role of an FBI agent named Alex Parrish in “Quantico”, said: “I mean, I can make a complete idiot out of myself in front of 80,000 people on stage, but that is a moment which is like, my hands are getting sweaty thinking about it.”
“So I talked to myself, completely cliche, in the bathroom before and said, ‘You’ve done 50 movies. What’s wrong with you?’ And I went in there, did my thing, and I got the job,” she added.

The second season of “Quantico” will air in India on Star World and Star World HD from Monday.

Salman Khan jokes Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone for Hollywood connection https://glint.tv/movies/salman-khan-jokes-priyanka-chopra-deepika-padukone-hollywood-connection/ Fri, 24 Jun 2016 13:49:49 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=2424

When there is Salman Khan, there is sarcasm. The same happened again during one of the press briefing at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) in Madrid, when Salman gaged Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.

The press conference was also the trailer launch of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya. Salman had actually missed the trailer, so he asked for a replay. To watch the trailer he left the podium, and asked everyone including Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and others to sit with him.

Everyone except Deepika and Priyanka left the stage. The two actresses were busy have a conversation on the stage. And the Dabang star took no time in making fun of them big time.

“These two ladies have now gone abroad, doing Hollywood movies,” Salman joked. “They don’t have anything to do with Indian cinema now.”

Both Priyanka and Deepika are making quite a buzz in Hollywood. While Priyanka’s TV series Quantico is making waves and she has also recently wrapped up shooting of Baywatch with Dwayne Johnson.

Deepika, meanwhile, is set for her international debut with Vin Diesel’s XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. She hoped that more actors from Bollywood will be able to plunge into Hollywood for mainstream roles, instead of small roles, which were also offered to her.

“I have been offered roles in the past itself but I don’t think I was ready and I don’t think I was excited enough,” Deepika said. “As an actor I don’t think I was ready for the challenge before.”

“You have to look everything that you get as an opportunity,” she added. “There is no role that’s too small or big. It is all about what you make of the opportunity.”
