Rock On 2 has failed to set the box office on fire. The critics giving it a thumbs down and the government’s demonitisation policy just prior to the release of the movie must have contributed majorly to the disastrous performance.

On 3rd Day Box Office Collection of Rock On 2 is only Rs 2.58 Cr.

Rock On 2 was poor all over the places and also it looks like Rock On 2 might collect less than its cost.

Rock On 2 is a 2016 Indian rock musical drama film directed by Shujaat Saudagar, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, and with music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Rock On 2 never had any buzz and had boring music. And that is why film opened to poor response all over. 1st Day Box Office Collection of Rock On 2 is only Rs 2.02 Cr.

The Currency issue has also hit the movie hard. Producer Ritesh Sidhwani said, “It did cross my mind to push the release date of the film but it was too late, because our overseas delivery was already done, the movie has opened today in Gulf so we would have got killed with piracy so if we would have shifted the India release piracy would have killed us.”

Rock On 2 also received average reviews from the critics. With the music too not being widely accepted, the film was headed to a low start.

A sequel to the 2008 film, “Rock On!!”, which was about the coming together of a band called Magic, this one is more than the reinforcement of the band.

The narrative begins with the band being dismantled once again not because of differences between the team members, but because each one of them has their own demons to deal with.

Aditya (Farhan Akthar) hounded by the guilt of a suicide case, settles in Meghalaya with his solitude and the villagers, helping them have a better life.

Joe Mascarenhas (Arjun Rampal), concerned about who is going to pay his bills, becomes a club manager and a reality show judge. Kedar Zaveri or KD (Purab Kohli) is still trying to find a balance between his friends and himself.

The trio and their families reunite in Meghalaya for Aditya’s birthday and they decide to reassemble their once famous band.

Meanwhile, as deus ex machina, Aditya’s path crosses with Jiah Sharma, a music enthusiast recording local talent in Meghalaya. And in Mumbai, Uday, Jiah’s friend sends her CD to the trio.

It is only when the five of them assemble at Joe’s office, that there is an instant acceptance, but not without their own hurdles.

Meanwhile, disaster strikes in the form of a forest fire and destroys the village Aditya had adopted. So, he goes back to Meghalaya to salvage the villagers from their miseries. And what better way to raise funds than a rock concert.

The story credited to Abhishek Kapoor and Pubali Chaudhari is interesting, but the plot is staid and formulaic with each scene packed with conflict, making the entire tale seem dramatic and forced. Also, the blatant plot holes due to the cinematic liberties taken make viewing a dreary fare.

With no memorable lines and the use of staid imagery, the dialogues written by Farhan are lame and run-of-the-mill.

The characters too don’t grow organically and thus there is a dissent with the viewers.

Farhan with his weak coarse voice as the lead singer is not imposing. Though he strives to put his heart into the character, he fails miserably while internalising his pain and his forlorn, unkempt look further accentuates his clumsiness.

Purab, though suave, is perfunctory and so is Arjun.

Prachi Desai as Sakshi, Aditya’s wife, with her blunt haircut and sedate outfits looks like she has just emerged from the Hollywood films of the 1960s.

Shraddha Kapoor as Jiah Sharma, and the talented Shashank Arora as Uday, who we had witnessed in the noir film “Titli” are good, but limited.

In supporting roles, topping the list is Kumud Mishra in a restrained performance as Pandit Vibhuti, Jiah’s father. He is unfaltering when he sermonises, “Kya, yeh sangeet hai?”, (Is this music?) to his son Rahul or when he is silent when Jiah argues with him in a tele conversation.

The others who have their moments of onscreen glory are the characters who play Rahul Sharma, Jiah’s brother and Manjot – a reality show contestant. They both show promise.

Mounted with excellent production values, the film is visually glossy and vibrant. The locales and the massive sets are beautifully exploited by cinematographer Marc Koninckx’s camera work.

The snappy edits by Anand Subaya keep in tune to the genre of the film.

Music by Shankar-Eshaan-Loy is well integrated into the narrative, but they do not propel the narrative. The title track that plays often is effectively used to pump adrenaline. The choreography in some songs is clumsy though.

Unfortunately, unlike the prequel, this film is not made with a passion for music. Instead, it is made with the intent of exploiting the franchise and it fails miserably.

Bollywood’s livewire actor Ranveer Singh has promoted Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming film “Rock On 2” by lip-syncing a number from the 2008 film “Rock On!!”.

The 31-year-old actor on Monday took to Twitter to share a dubsmash video of him lip-syncing the lines of “Pichle saat dinon mein”.

On the work front, Ranveer is gearing up for the release of his upcoming romantic movie “Befikre” helmed by Aditya Chopra.

Also starring Vaani Kapoor, “Befikre”, set to release on December 9, captures the Parisian spirit of freedom and impulsive living.

Actress Shraddha Kapoor, who is known for her acting prowess as well as her singing, says she enjoys it when she gets a chance to explore her singing talent while working on a project.

Her soothing voice in songs like “Galliyan” and “Bezubaan phir se” has been well appreciated by listeners. She got a chance to sing her own songs in the musical drama “Rock On 2” – sequel of “Rock On”. “I am exploring the singing aspect and having too much fun exploring that. Also I feel grateful to Ritesh (Sidwani), Farhan Akhtar and Shujaat Saudagar (director) for considering me as a perfect fit for the role. I think it is a rare opportunity for me to sing for a musical film,” Shraddha said at the trailer launch of “Rock On 2”.

She has explored acting, singing and dancing. So what’s next for her?

“Well, I want to go with the flow. It was my childhood dream that I am singing and dancing apart from doing films. I am blessed that I am getting the opportunity to work in good films and playing such lovely characters. I hope this continues”,” she said.

The upcoming musical drama film is directed by Saudagar, produced by Farhan and Sidhwani, and has music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. While Farhan, Arjun Rampal, Prachi Desai and Purab Kohli reprise their roles from “Rock On”, Shraddha and “Titli” fame actor and musician Shashank Arora have joined the team for the sequel.

The actress says singing rock songs was difficult. “I am very fond of rock music so I was happy to get to sing my own songs in the film. I hope the songs of the film will receive as much love as the prequel,” she said.

Talking about the story of the film Farhan said, “Being the sequel of Rock On!! the story of the film revolves around the earlier characters but with different twist and turns. It is the continuous journey of the band – Magik.”

Farhan said that while the first film is about four guys who created Magik, this film is about how the journey of ‘Magik’ continues as young musicians join the band.

Farhan completed 15 years in Bollywood, as he directed his first film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ in 2001, which has achieved a cult following.

Talking about his journey as actor, director, singer and writer, he said, “When you work out of passion, you don’t think much about challenges. You do not calculate what you have to compromise to get creative satisfaction. You work with joy!”

Rock on 2 releases on November 11.

Actress Shraddha Kapoor said every film is like a debut for her and feels equally excited for each of her films. Shraddha has acted in “Aashiqui 2”, “Ek Villain”, “Haider”, “ABCD 2” and “Baaghi”.

“Every film is like a debut film for me. Though I have worked in six films so far, every film is different. And when it comes to my upcoming film ‘Rock On 2’, I am excited and a little nervous for various reason,” the actress told the media here at the trailer launch of the much awaited “Rock On 2”, a sequel of National Award winning film “Rock On!!” (released in 2008).

“Though I sung before for my earlier films, this is the first time I am singing rock songs. I took vocal training to adapt the style correctly. Thankfully, people like our songs and I am happy for it. On the other hand, the film is an emotional journey. My character is very interesting,” she added.

However, she also has another very special reason to celebrate the film.

“I was very young when Rock On !! released, it is one of the favourite films of my growing age that I watched repeatedly. I did not even think of being a part of the sequel of my favourite film not only as an actor but also as a singer! It is a dream come true moment for me,” she said.

The film starring Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Purab Kohli, Arjun Rampal, Sahana Goswani, Prachi Desai is all set to release on November 11.

‘Rock On 2’ trailer is out! The vibrant look and powerful portrayal by lead actors, joined by Shraddha Kapoor, seem to have all the ingredients to better the Abhishek Kapoor’s 2008 hit ‘Rock On.’

The sequel helmed by director Shujaat Saudagar has put together a tight promo, with the lead actors from the original depicting older looks and this time the movie is based out of the North-east of India.

.Farhan Akhtar, Purab Kohli and Arjun Rampal play buddy again. This time there’s no Luke Kenny but there’s Shraddha along with Prachi Desai and Shahana Goswami, who return to play Farhan and Arjun’s wives again.

The music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is already being appreciated. ‘Rock On!! 2’ is slated to release on 11^th November.

My character goes through an internal conflict and emotional journey in this film. The character has matured and has a new look. I hope people like it.”
