Popularly known as “Aapa”- a name that sent shivers in Mumbai’s Nagpada area, HASEENA PARKAR is a true story based on the life and times of the sister of India’s Most Wanted Man.

She plays underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar. Shraddha’s brother Siddhanth Kapoor will play the notorious gangster Dawood Ibrahim in the biopic.

The film charts her journey from a young girl to a mother of four to the Godmother of Nagpada across four decades in the Maximum City.

The film features Shraddha Kapoor, Siddhanth Kapoor and Ankur Bhatia in lead roles. 

The film has been directed by Apoorva Lakhia.

The film is releasing on 18th August 2017.

Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer romantic drama “Half Girlfriend” has got off to a decent start at the box office by collecting Rs 10.27 crore on its opening day.

“We are ecstatic at this opening figure. ‘Half Girlfriend’ has not only managed to stand out with its immense hype and pre-buzz, but also recorded a fantastic opening of Rs 10.27 crore, in the face of the ‘Baahubali’ wave and the IPL match factor,” Shreyans Hirawat of NH Studioz, the company that is distributing the film nationwide, said in a statement.

“The audiences have spoken and have thronged theatres giving the film a massive initial. ‘Half Girlfriend’ was the only film that had managed to stand out and has seen solid growth through the first day across centres,” Hirawat added.

“Half Girlfriend”, which released on Friday in 2500 screens across India, is an adaptation of author Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name.

Meanwhile, Irrfan Khan’s “Hindi Medium”, which was in competition with “Half Girlfriend”, has Rs 2.81 crore on its opening day.

Made on a budget of Rs 22 crore, “Hindi Medium” has already recovered Rs 15 crore from digital, satellite, music and overseas rights.

In a big Box Office clash Irrfan Khan-starrer “Hindi Medium” will be pitted against Shraddha and Arjun Kapoor starrer Half Girlfriend. The makers of Hindi Medium pushed the release date of the film by one week as they wanted more time to promote the film. It will now hit the screens on May 19, clashing with “Half Girlfriend”. 

Actress Shraddha Kapoor, who plays a stylish, sophisticated Delhi girl in her forthcoming film “Half Girlfriend”, says she is very tomboyish in real life and that simple things of life makes her happy.

She was present on Monday, with co-star Arjun Kapoor, director Mohit Suri and author Chetan Bhagat, to re-launch the book cover of “Half Girlfriend” with the picture of Arjun and Shraddha on it.

Asked about what is the similarity between her and the character Ria that she is playing in the film, Shraddha told media, ” I think like Riya Somani. I also feel happy in simple things of life, I like simplicity. On the other hand I am quite tomboyish in real life which is quite different from the character.

“In fact that is why I had to learn certain body language and style of a Delhi girl of high society that Riya comes from.”

As the songs of the film are getting popular, Suri, thanking the listeners, said: “I think the credit goes to the good story, written by Chetan. If I do not have an emotional story, I cannot intensify that with music, so a good story plays the important role here.”

Asked about what made Bhagat collaborate with Suri for the film, the author said: “He has a great understanding of emotion and that was needed for this story. I had an eye on Mohit’s work, his music and how beautifully he weaves it with the story for films. He was my only choice when I went to him with the book to make a film.”

Produced by Ekta Kapoor, the film is releasing on May 19.

When news emerged that a biopic is in the works on badminton star Saina Nehwal, there was speculation on whether Deepika Padukone would play the part. But Shraddha Kapoor was finalised for it. Now a movie on P.V. Sindhu is in the making, but Deepika says she has never been approached for any biopic.

“I have never been approached for any biopic, to be honest. I do have a background in badminton, but I have never been approached for any biopic,” Deepika, daughter of celebrated badminton player Prakash Padukone, told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

The actress played her bit of badminton before venturing into modelling and films. Meanwhile, Shraddha is honoured to play Saina on screen in a movie directed by Amole Gupte. For the project on Sindhu, no official announcement regarding the lead actress has been made yet by Sonu Sood, who is producing it.

Deepika’s focus is currently on “Padmavati”, and she is looking forward to her visit to Cannes for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, which she will be attending as the newly appointed global brand ambassador for cosmetic giant L’Oréal Paris. On Friday, she launched the brand’s Cannes Collection 2017 inspired by the theme #LifeatCannes in Mumbai. She revealed that she will be attending the event on May 17 and May 18 along with international co-ambassadors Julianne Moore and Susan Sarandon among others.  From India, even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor will grace the red carpet.

Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor, who will be seen playing Saina Nehwal in an upcoming biopic directed by Amole Gupte, says she is really honoured to essay the role of the Indian badminton star in the film.

Shraddha on Wednesday took to Twitter to make the announcement.

“I am honoured to be given this opportunity to play her in my next film ‘Saina’,” she added.

The actress, who is currently promoting her forthcoming film “Half Girlfriend”, says preparing for the film will be very challenging for her.

“The preparation for this film is going to be very, very challenging. It’s probably going to be my most difficult film till date,” she said.

“‘Saina’ is going to be directed by Amole Gupte and produced by T-Series,” she added.

Shraddha is also prepping for another biopic titled “Haseena: The Queen of Mumbai” in which she plays underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar. Shraddha’s brother Siddhanth Kapoor will play the notorious gangster Dawood Ibrahim in the biopic.

It is said that Sonakshi Sinha was earlier finalised to play Haseena but the actress reportedly walked out due to date issues.

Last seen on the screen in Shaad Ali’s “Ok Jaanu”, a remake of Mani Ratnam’s “Ok Kanmani”, Shraddha will be seen next in “Half Girlfriend”, directed by Mohit Suri.

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has rubbished reports that he and actor Aditya Roy Kapur had engaged in an argument over actress Shraddha Kapoor.

On Sunday, Farhan took to Twitter to clear the air and sort out the rumours with a photograph of himself with Aditya smiling from ear to ear.

Actors Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur, who are gearing up for the release of “Ok Jaanu”, will be seen promoting the romantic drama film on ace comedian Kapil Sharmas “The Kapil Sharma Show”.

The actors, who were last seen onscreen together in superhit 2013 film “Aashiqui 2”, shot for the special episode on Kapil’s Show.

“Promoting last night on one of my favourite shows ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ with the most fun gang. ‘Ok Jaanu’,” Shraddha posted on Twitter on Wednesday alongside a photograph in which she and Aditya can be seen pouting alongside Kapil’s gang.

Directed by Shaad Ali, the film is an official remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film “Ok Kanmani”, which revolves around a young couple in a live-in relationship here.

“Ok Jaanu”, which also stars Leela Samson and Naseeruddin Shah, is slated to release on January 13.
