Sonam Kapoor gives social media advice to fans https://glint.tv/movies/sonam-kapoor-gives-social-media-advice-to-fans/ Mon, 08 May 2017 06:36:15 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=8562

National Award winning actress Sonam Kapoor has requested fans and social media users not to get personal and troll celebrities.

Sonam, who was trolled on social media for misquoting the national anthem in her column that she writes for a publishing house, posted the request on Twitter on Sunday.

“I request my followers and fans not to hate someone and get personal towards other celebrities. Be better than that. Please remember imitation is the best form of flattery. And it just showcases admiration. Please don’t get personal and troll,” Sonam posted.

On April 21, a part of the actress’ column went viral on the internet highlighting her misquoted lines from the anthem.

It read: “I love my country but for some of you – and you’re the bigots, not me – I become ‘anti-national’ only because I ask questions or choose to be critical. Listen to the national anthem… recall the line you heard as kids, ‘Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Issai…'”.

The column was her way of expressing anguish at being trolled by people and the trend of trolling on the net lately.

In the past, the actress has been trolled for talking about the four-day meat ban in Mumbai in 2015.

Sonam had said that “India will remain a third world country because of the intolerant misogynistic close minded few”.

16-Time World Champ Pankaj Advani Asks What More He Needs To Do https://glint.tv/ports/16-time-world-champ-pankaj-advani-asks-what-more-he-needs-to-do/ Fri, 27 Jan 2017 05:02:01 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=7373

Hurt at missing out on Padma Bhushan award for the second year in a row, 16-time world champion cueist Pankaj Advani says he does not know what he needs to do more to receive the coveted civilian honour.

Advani, who has pocketed eight world titles in the last eight years, was recommended for the third highest civilian award of the country by the Karnataka government as well as the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI).

The Bengaluru-based Advani, one of India’s greatest cueists, did not say much after being overlooked for the award yet again, but expressed his feelings on social media.

“Thank you sir. Just feel after 16 world titles and 2 Asian games golds if I’m ignored for a Padma Bhushan, don’t know what more I need to do,” Advani tweeted in his response to Sports Minister Vijay Goel, who congratulated him for winning a staggering 28th national title in Pune earlier this week.

No sportsperson was chosen for Padma Bhushan this year while eight athletes from various disciplines, including Virat Kohli and Dipa Karmakar, were honoured with Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour which Advani received way back in 2009.

Advani has also been awarded with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2006), India’s highest sporting honour.

BSFI secretary S Balasubramaniam could not think of any current sportsperson more deserving than Advani for the Padma Bhushan:

“It is very sad to hear that he has been ignored again. It is happening year after year. It is disheartening not only for him but for the entire fraternity. Looks like lobbying is what works (to get these awards). If you go by sheer performance, Pankaj should have got it long ago. Tell me a sportsperson who consistently win world titles like Pankaj. However, we will try again next year,” Balasubramaniam said.

Advani’s brother Shree too did not hide his disappointment:

“This shows the government’s tunnel vision towards cricket and Olympic sports. Apparently, you can only get the awards by lobbying or if hype is created, merit is not enough. Pankaj deserves a lot more than Padma Bhushan,” he said.

Myth busted; not women, men more likely to show-off on social media https://glint.tv/lifestyle/myth-busted-not-women-men-more-likely-to-show-off-on-social-media/ Sat, 14 Jan 2017 07:12:35 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=7013

In order to show-off to friends, collect ‘likes’ on social media and to feel good about themselves, men are more likely to post their privacy away, a study has found.

The study showed that men are sensitive about how many likes they get on social media and are more likely to reveal something embarrassing or confidential about their co-workers, friends or employers than women.

According to the study, one-in-ten (nine per cent) men would post a photo of themselves naked compared to only 5 per cent of women and 13 per cent of men post photos of their friends wearing something revealing.

“In the hunt for likes, men tend to go even further than women, posting things that present themselves and their friends in a compromising light,” Astrid Carolus, media psychologist at the University of Wurzburg in Germany, said in a statement.

Further, men also get upset if they do not get the likes they hope for and 29 per cent of them also admitted they get upset if somebody who matters to them does not like their posts.

Fifteen per cent of men also admitted they would post a photo of friends under the influence of alcohol compared to just 8 per cent of women.

The study “is in line with the assumption of men being rather less focused on social harmony and rather more willing to take risks”, Carolus said, adding that this risky behaviour on social media can put people at risk.

In their search for social approval, people have stopped seeing the boundary between what it is okay to share and what is better kept private, the researchers noted.

Keep that perfect body in shape as you grow https://glint.tv/lifestyle/keep-that-perfect-body-as-you-grow/ Sat, 11 Jun 2016 17:02:53 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=2067

By Kaamna Jain

In our adult life, we face a number of challenges; keeping our body fit is a major one. Nothing can give pleasure in life if we do not have a healthy body to enjoy it.

Have you ever seen kids playing in the parks or colonies in the evening, they spend hours – talking, laughing, running. It all seems so meaningless or maybe there is meaning. While it is okay to spend time like this in our childhood and well into our teens, we adults think it’s a luxury we can’t afford. Especially in this age of whatsapp, facebook and twitter any free time has to be spent judiciously and thus missing the point of chilling out stress free, like those kids in the park. The stress free time the kids spend helps them keep healthy mentally as well as physically.

Why is it so difficult to keep fit as we grow older? Simple enough question though but it’s been troubling me for years. Here’s a couple of answers I guess makes sense to me now.

·         The metabolic rate slows down as we grow older which means that body burns fat at a lower rate than it did earlier

·         Lifestyle: desk jobs and sedentary routines

What works for me and will probably work for anyone is – Allocate some time for yourself every single day. Choose an activity that you can do daily, is practical and is something that you enjoy. If you target going for swimming to a pool that is 5 kilometres away from house every day or a gym in a far-off location chance of your sticking to the routine are limited.

Choose your fitness regimen, there are a number of options to choose from:

Walking – which is the simplest and most effective fitness regimen…it does not require much investment except buying a pair of good quality shoes and can be done anywhere.

Yoga –  I’ll recommend joining a Yoga class or getting home visits from a registered Yoga practitioner so that consistency in practice is maintained as well as you don’t end up hurting yourself during asana practice.

Gym –  This one is a no-brainer.

Dance – You get to move your body and have fun galore.

Running – Even if you don’t run the marathon, you will be surprised how running increases your stamina and strength if done regularly. You wouldn’t mind the weight loss as well.

Sports – Pick up a game – any game like Badminton/basketball. The only thing is that you will need like-minded people to play with you.

The key is habit or regularity. Practice till it becomes your second nature and your day isn’t complete if you missed your daily dose of physical action.

Taking care of our bodies is one of our prime responsibilities…After all our body is the only place we have to live in.
