Producers of Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal’s Telugu movie “Magadheera” on Thursday morning withdrew a plagiarism case they slapped against the makers of Bollywood film “Raabta”.

During the case hearing, several differences were cited in the script and storyline of the two films.

“We presented our case to the honourable court as to how the films are not similar. In the morning, the makers of ‘Magadheera’ withdrew their case,” Dinesh Vijan, director of “Raabta”, told IANS.

Lawyers representing “Raabta” makers argued at a court on Wednesday that the background of the lead characters, their storyline development, the role of villain, the foreign locations and most importantly the finale of the film are completely and materially different from “Magadheera”.

A statement issued on behalf of the “Raabta” team said the lawyers pointed out that the concerns of the makers of “Magadheera” that the warriors scene has been lifted in “Raabta” were unfounded as there was no such scene either in their film or the trailer.

“Unlike ‘Magadheera’, the villainous character was, in fact, an anti-hero and a parallel interest point for the heroine. Even in the back story depicting the past life of characters, the hero of the film actually plays a negative character for most part,” the statement read further.

“Raabta” features actress Kriti Sanon, and it will now release on Friday. “Magadheera”, which came out in 2009, was directed by S.S. Rajamouli.

The makers of “Raabta” have released another song “Darasal” in the heartfelt voice of Atif Aslam. The makers of Raabta have released a new song ‘Lambiyaan Si Judaiyaan’ in the soulfoul voice of Arijit Singh. It has been penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and composed by JAM8. It is the new heartbreak song on the block as it captures the emotional journey of Shiv and Saira as they fall apart and long to be with each other. This is a slow break up song. The other songs of the movie are romantic numbers.

Raabta is based on the concept of reincarnation. The Film stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in lead roles. It also stars Jim Sarbh and Rajkummar Rao in key roles. The Film releases on 9th June.

The Sadda song from the movie Raabta has already gone viral on the internet.

The song in the voice of Diljit Dosanjh and Pardeep Singh Sran composed by Pritam and penned by Irshad Kamil and Amitabh Bhattacharya is pictured on actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Sushant shot for the last schedule of the forthcoming film here earlier this year. The actor shot for the high energy song, “Saada move”, which showcases famous spots of Amritsar. 

“Dinesh wanted this song to have the vibes of the city and so we decided to shoot it at real locations. Everything had to be very well planned. It was challenging, but a lot of fun,” Sushant had said in a statement. “Saada move” is his introductory song and so the leading lady of the film, Kriti Sanon was not present during the shoot of this number. 

So Sushant made his “Raabta” co-star Kriti taste the flavours of Amritsar by taking her to various hot spots of the city recently.

The two, who were here earlier this week to begin promotion of the Dinesh Vijan directorial, visited a dhaba and had sugarcane juice. They also interacted with a few locals during their visit.

“Raabta” is set to release on June 9.

Industry hearsay is that Dinesh Vijan’s “Raabta” that travels between two eras seeks inspiration from Hollywood fantasy war drama “300”.

“I do films because I love acting. You put me on stage and give me just Rs 500 I would love to act. Even if I can’t do theatre I can gladly do short films. Acting is something else for me,” the “Kai Po Che!” actor said about his passion for acting.

Brand ambassador, Sushant Singh Rajput also spoke about “Behtar India” Campaign that aims at mobilising students, ordinary citizens and corporates to join a nationwide movement that focuses on health, hygiene, and environment.

“When you become a popular face and people start giving attention on what you say or do then it is important to do things that you are convinced with. That’s why I am associated with this campaign. I think this is high time for all of us to understand how important it is,” he stated.

“MS Dhoni – The Untold Story”, a film on the life of cricket star Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has minted over Rs 112 crore since its release on September 30, becoming the biggest earning biopic in Indian cinema, claim its makers.

Produced by Fox Star Studios and Arun Pandey of Inspired Entertainment, the film, directed by Neeraj Pandey, narrates Dhoni’s journey from the lanes of Ranchi to his becoming the captain of the Indian cricket team.

It collected Rs 3.40 crore on Monday (October 10), taking the total to Rs 112.70 crore.

Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, said in a statement: “‘MS Dhoni – The Untold Story’ is now the highest earning biopic ever made (in Indian cinema). This goes to show the love people have for Mahi and how they have been discovered, adopted and promoted the film.

“We are truly humbled with the response from his fans, cricket lovers and movie audiences alike.”

According to the statement, issued on behalf of the film’s makers, the demand for the shows have increased despite big releases like “Mirzya” and “Tutak Tutak Tutiya”.

The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the title role, and also features Kiara Advani, Disha Patani and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.

“M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story” — a biopic on India’s star skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni — has netted Rs 66 crore on its opening weekend at the Indian box office besides receiving an overwhelming response overseas also, the makers have said.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film features Sushant Singh Rajput in the title role. He has been lauded for his form and performance as a cricketer, and fans of Dhoni as well as the actor have been increasing the footfalls at the theatres for it.

According to a statement issued on behalf of the film’s makers, it “scored a massive number over the weekend, showing a huge jump and collecting Rs 24.10 crore on Sunday (Oct 2)”.

On its opening day on Friday (September 30), the movie collected Rs 21.3 crore, and on the following day, it made Rs 20.6 crore. Its Sunday collections have taken the total to Rs 66 crore.

“Owing to an overwhelming word of mouth from across the city, the weekend total is Rs 66 crore nett,” read the statement.

The makers claim “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story” has managed the second highest weekend collections of 2016 in India after Salman Khan starrer “Sultan”.

“The film has opened exceptionally well. It has lived upto the expectations of all pre-release hype. The film is getting an overwhelming response from the audiences. Weekend occupancy of the film was over 75 percent at INOX,” said Rajender Singh, Vice President – Programming and Distribution, Inox Leisure Ltd.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story” is sensational… Packs a solid total.”

The producers are happy with the film’s performance in the international market too. It made $1.1 million in the US, $24,000 in Britain, $1.2 million from the Middle East and $193,000 in Australia, the makers said.

With this, it earned an estimated opening weekend collection of $ 3.3 million abroad, thus making it the fourth highest opening weekend of 2016 after “Sultan” ($ 13.4 million), “Fan” ($ 6 million) and “Houseful 3” ($ 4 million), the makers said.

To celebrate the success, the film’s makers released a video in which Dhoni himself talks about his journey.

“I believe that only cities are small and not the people living in it or their dreams. I believe that a man’s height is measured through his intentions. I believe that only those people talk about destiny, who have never stepped out into the field,” Dhoni says in the little over 30-second promotional video.

“I believe that exhaustion and pressure are only myths. I believe that the distance between winning and loosing is big, but it is not impossible,” he added.

The craze for Neeraj Pandey’s “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story“, a biopic on India’s best known cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is much more than any film based on any sportsman in the past, and this might help to break the biopic jinx at the box office, says a trade analyst. “Dhoni enjoys a massive following amongst cricket lovers and coupled with the fact that the title talks of ‘Untold Story’, it has added to the hype and curiosity of this well-publisised film,” trade analyst Taran Adarsh said. “The craze for ‘M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story’ is tremendous, much more than any film based on any sportsman in the past,” he added.

Adarsh also considers track record of the director, who has made successful films like “Special 26” and “Baby”. “With Neeraj Pandey on the director’s seat, the expectations are humongous. All these factors put together should ensure a flying start for the film at the ticket windows.”
“Of course, it eventually boils down to content. But I am sure the makers would do justice to the story that will be narrated on screen.”

Atul Mohan, editor of the trade magazine Complete Cinema, adds that stakes as well as expectations are “too high”.
“Dhoni is a huge brand, he has a huge fan following. As a perk, he is a craze amongst girls. He is a craze not only in India but overseas as well. Everybody wants to see the rise of Dhoni.”  Significantly, Mohan points out the importance of this being an authorised biopic.
 “With the legend himself involved, it has to be an interesting watch. Neeraj Pandey is a great story-teller of our times. The marketing strategy is rightly pitched for this one. “The only concern is budget, but if sources are to be believed then all involved have covered their cost and only theatrical business is to be taken care of. But at the end of the day, the final report card of the film is assessed depending on the theatrical performance.”
