A simple bowl or plate of noodles can be had in interesting and fun ways. To make them taste better, there are a lot of options like adding lemon zest, blended tomato or nuts, suggest experts.

Sid Mathur, creator and key advisor for Wai Wai City (quick service restaurant noodle bar) and Chef Manoj Pandey, partner chef at The Piano Man, have rolled out tips:

* Ingredients like lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and lemon zest can bring out beautiful flavours.

* A quick sauce can be made by blending one fresh tomato with a pinch of pepper, salt to taste and mix in a teaspoon of soya sauce and vinegar. Add it to the water being boiled to cook the noodles and create a new dimension.

* To give a rounded flavour to your meal, chop and blanch a cup of mixed vegetables like beans, broccoli, peas and carrots. Strain and add to the noodles being cooked when they are half done. Stir till done.

* Lightly dry roast a tablespoon of sesame seeds and half a cup of shelled peanut. Crush them coarsely. Chop one small onion with a de-seeded chilli and a small bunch of fresh coriander. Mix half the contents in the cooked noodles before serving and sprinkle the rest.

Important tips for well-being on Holi https://glint.tv/lifestyle/important-tips-for-well-being-on-holi/ Sat, 11 Mar 2017 10:35:04 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=8031

Ensure wearing clothes that cover most your skin, and avoid sitting in the sun if you’re full of colour, suggests an expert ahead of Holi, which falls on March 13.

Traditionally, colours were made from flowers. But with time, harsh chemicals and dyes have replaced these natural ingredients. To make sure that it doesn’t damageyour skin or hair, here are some tips by Karuna Malhotra, Cosmetologist from Cosmetic Skin and Homeo Clinic:

* Stay hydrated drink water, juices and liquid. Dehydration causes your skin to dry and combined with harsh chemicals, the colour might seep into your skin.

* You should oil your hair well before you start playing. Coconut oil and olive oil are fine options to protect your hair from harsh colors.

* Also apply some oil behind your ears, ear lobes and nails as these are points were the colour easily settles.

* Avoid sitting in the hot sun, with the colours still on your face or body, after playing Holi, especially if you have used chemical-based colours. This makes the colours stronger and difficult to wash off. Sit in a shade even if you are outdoors.

* Use more of red or pink colours, which can easily be taken off. Gaudy ones like purple, green, yellow and orange have more harmful chemicals in them and should be avoided.

* Don’t forget to wear waterproof sunscreen before you step out for a day in the sun atleast SPF 30 or more.

* Wear clothes that cover most of your body. Avoid heavy fabrics like denim that don’t dry easily.

* Cover your head with a thick scarf or bandana.

* Don’t wear lenses when you go out to play. While Holi colours cause irritability, lenses have a tendency to absorb the colour, thereby making things worse. Wear glasses and keep wiping them clean from time to time.

Tips on removing colour afterwards:

* Hair should be deep conditioned after the wash. Make sure your hair is clean. Apply hair mask after two to three days to cure the damage.

* Cleaning the skin and hair after playing with colours is very important. Do not rub the skin vigorously with soaps to wipe the face of gulal, instead opt for a cleanser. Follow this up with lots of moisturizer, especially ones that are meant for sensitive skin.

* Avoid scraping off colours with your finger nails as they will leave unpleasant marks. Gently apply a granular scrub on the body and face to get rid of the colours.

* Do not bleach, shave, wax or go for facial or clean ups the following week. Give your skin and body some time to recover from the damage.

* Avoid using kerosene, petrol and spirits to remove stains, as they will make your skin dry. Rejuvenate your skin with a mixture of sea salt, glycerine and a few drops of aroma oil which have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Keep that perfect body in shape as you grow https://glint.tv/lifestyle/keep-that-perfect-body-as-you-grow/ Sat, 11 Jun 2016 17:02:53 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=2067

In our adult life, we face a number of challenges; keeping our body fit is a major one. Nothing can give pleasure in life if we do not have a healthy body to enjoy it.

Have you ever seen kids playing in the parks or colonies in the evening, they spend hours – talking, laughing, running. It all seems so meaningless or maybe there is meaning. While it is okay to spend time like this in our childhood and well into our teens, we adults think it’s a luxury we can’t afford. Especially in this age of whatsapp, facebook and twitter any free time has to be spent judiciously and thus missing the point of chilling out stress free, like those kids in the park. The stress free time the kids spend helps them keep healthy mentally as well as physically.

Why is it so difficult to keep fit as we grow older? Simple enough question though but it’s been troubling me for years. Here’s a couple of answers I guess makes sense to me now.

·         The metabolic rate slows down as we grow older which means that body burns fat at a lower rate than it did earlier

·         Lifestyle: desk jobs and sedentary routines

What works for me and will probably work for anyone is – Allocate some time for yourself every single day. Choose an activity that you can do daily, is practical and is something that you enjoy. If you target going for swimming to a pool that is 5 kilometres away from house every day or a gym in a far-off location chance of your sticking to the routine are limited.

Choose your fitness regimen, there are a number of options to choose from:

Walking – which is the simplest and most effective fitness regimen…it does not require much investment except buying a pair of good quality shoes and can be done anywhere.

Yoga –  I’ll recommend joining a Yoga class or getting home visits from a registered Yoga practitioner so that consistency in practice is maintained as well as you don’t end up hurting yourself during asana practice.

Gym –  This one is a no-brainer.

Dance – You get to move your body and have fun galore.

Running – Even if you don’t run the marathon, you will be surprised how running increases your stamina and strength if done regularly. You wouldn’t mind the weight loss as well.

Sports – Pick up a game – any game like Badminton/basketball. The only thing is that you will need like-minded people to play with you.

The key is habit or regularity. Practice till it becomes your second nature and your day isn’t complete if you missed your daily dose of physical action.

Taking care of our bodies is one of our prime responsibilities…After all our body is the only place we have to live in.
