Actor Ranveer Singh says that his forthcoming film “Befikre” has a nice story apart from the much talked about kissing scenes.

“Yes, there is a story. When Adi sir (the film’s director Aditya Chopra) showed the trailer to me before releasing it, I asked him why he is releasing a promo that has so much more to it? The promo does not give you anything about the world of the film.”

“I had an argument with him regarding that, but I think he wants the audience to discover the characters of the film while watching and that is why he deliberately cut a very surface level promo. It’s a very conscious choice that he made to ‘under promise and over deliver’ to his audience,” he added.

The actor, who is paired with actress Vaani Kapoor in the film, said the audience will start discovering the two characters from the first scene of the film once people watch it.

“Though it is light-hearted, it is not a frivolous film,” said Ranveer, who has shown his romantic side in films like “Band Baaja Baaraat”, “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela”, “Lootera” and “Bajirao Mastani”.

The audience will get to see more of it in “Befikre”, which is the celebration of carefree love and a romantic relationship.

How are love stories in Hindi cinema changing and is the audience receptive towards it?

He said: “I think we have room for both — ‘Befikre’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Yes, there is a generational shift when it comes to the outlook of a romantic relationship. The young generation communicates through social media more. That was not accessible during my formative years like when I was 17-18 years old.”

“Now, judging people based on their choices of romantic relationship is not cool. The young generation is open-minded. However, there is room for classic romantic love stories as well.”

“Befikre” is his first film in which he is being directed by Chopra, head honcho of Yash Raj Films.

Talking about his equation with with the filmmaker, Ranveer said: “You see the director-actor equation is more substantial and dynamic than a producer-actor. We have interacted more during the shooting of the film.”

“So, I got to know a different side of him…whether he has a wicked sense of humour or has a bindass carefree attitude. He is a private person and as an actor, I feel fortunate to know him closely.”

In the past, Ranveer has acted in Chopra-produced films, including the actor’s debut movie “Band Baaja Baaraat”.

What makes it so special to be part of any Yash Raj Films project?

He said: “I think there is a certain amount of assurance with which the production will be executed. The film will be mounted and you know there will be no stone unturned from the producer’s end to do the best for the film. And there is a certain amount of prestige value to it.”

“Befikre” is all set to release on December 9.

Actress Vaani Kapoor, who is gearing up for the release of her second film “Befikre”, has praised its director Aditya Chopra saying that he is a humble man.

Asked how was it working with Chopra, Vaani told IANS over phone from Mumbai: “He is such a humble man. You can never feel intimidated by him because he makes sure that he is approachable and friendly.”

“Before he announced (about ‘Befikre’), he broke the news I am doing this movie…He was taking my workshops. I didn’t know for what movie and who is directing it…He made me feel very comfortable when we were doing workshops also,” she said.

The 28-year-old actress says by the time she reached the film’s set, she “did become a lot comfortable”.

“For me, I could be myself (in front of Chopra). I could goof up and make mistakes and not feel judged…That fear had gone,” she said.

Talking about her “Befikre” journey, Vaani said: “It was amazing. I felt like it was the best thing that had happened to me…Not only because it is an Aditya Chopra movie or it has Ranveer Singh or I had such a fabulous team, but also for the character I got to play.”

The “Shuddh Desi Romance” actress says she has something to treasure for life.

Shot widely in Paris, “Befikre” is a fresh interpretation of love as viewed in the 21st century. The film is slated to release on December 9.

At the launch of the new Befikre Ranveer Singh said that he was the first choice of Aditya Chopra for “Befikre” right from the beginning despite the director having Shah Rukh Khan star in all his three films he made in his near three-decade long career.

“I am the least territorial person; I don’t think I am entering anyone’s territory. Adi sir wanted to make the film with me and I am involved in the project from its scripting. I am glad that my mentor has given me the opportunity to work under his direction. It’s a big deal for me,” said the actor at the launch of “You and I” song of “Befikre” here with Vaani Kapoor, his co-star in the movie.

“Befikre” is set to release next month. The film has three songs, composed by Vishal-Shekhar and written by Jaydeep Sahni.

Earlier Ranveer worked with Aditya Chopra on “Ladies VS Ricky Bahl” where Chopra penned the story of the film.

Noting that after Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, he is the only actor in Bollywood directed by Aditya Chopra and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he said: “I am so proud and happy. I think I am lucky to get such opportunity. Though I want to work with big names of Bollywood, I also want to work with young directors and fresh idea.”

Through the film is grabbing headlines with Ranveer tagged as a serial kisser, he said that the film has got a U/A certificate. “The projection of kiss here is not wild or lust but as warm as a hug. It has been shown is a very tasteful manner… so perfect for family viewing.”

For Vaani, it is her second film after a gap of three years from her Bollywood debut in “Shuddh Desi Romance” (2013). Sharing the reason for this, she said: “Adi sir advised me to wait for the right film to come. Now that this film is ready to release, I think the wait was worth enough.”

As the film talks about new-age relationship of boys and girls where they have no time for love, asking about his opinion on the same, Ranveer said: “There is a generational shift on the perception and outlook of romantic relationship. This film represent young mind of today’s generation. Personally, I am a bit traditional when it comes to relationships.”

The film will see Aditya Chopra in the director’s chair after eight years. “Befikre”, Chopra’s fourth film as a director, comes after the 2008 movie “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi”. Soon after the film’s shoot was wrapped up, Ranveer has said that it was a “mindblowing” experience. “‘Befikre’ shooting was mindblowing. Aditya sir is just amazing,” Ranveer said.

But added that during the shoot of one of the sequences of his film “Befikre”, the director Aditya Chopra observed that he was acting like Anil Kapoor and told him to act like himself.

“‘Befikre’ shoot was going on in Paris and Adi (Chopra) sir cut a shot, came from behind the monitor and said ‘Yaar, you have started acting like Anil Kapoor. After ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ there has been a deep impact of his on you. So now in the next take, you give Ranveer’s shot, and not Anil’s’,” Ranveer said at the screening of Anil’s television show “24”.
