Kashmiri actress Zaira Wasim, who has been receiving accolades for her performance in “Dangal”, has deleted her open letter in which she apologised for “unintentionally hurting” people after her meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, from her social media accounts.

The 16-year-old had met Mehbooba Mufti. Several photographs of her with Mufti had gone viral, for which Zaira was trolled on social media.

The actress took to Instagram and Facebook to apologise for hurting the sentiments of fellow Kashmiris.

Without saying what she was sorry for, the actor wrote in her “open confession/apology” that she does not want anyone to follow in her footsteps or even consider her as a role model.

“I’m not proud of what I’m doing and I want everyone, especially the youth to know that there are real role models out there whether they be in this time or in our history.”

Hinting that the apology may have to do with her recent meeting with the CM, the post stated: “I know many people have been offended and displeased by my recent actions or people I have recently met…

“…I understand the sentiments behind it especially considering what had happened over the past 6 months.”

The post is not visible on her social accounts now.

Olympian wrestler Geeta Phogat, who was among the main characters depicted in ‘Dangal’ meanwhile, supported the actress and appreciated Zaira’s acting skills despite not being a sportsperson.

“There is no need for Zaira to issue an apology. She has not done anything wrong. We have made the nation proud by winning medals. It is a proud moment for the citizens of the country. Zaira has worked hard to play my role,” Geeta was quoted as saying by Times Now channel.

“Wrestling is not an easy sport. Despite not being a wrestler herself or a sportswoman, Zaira played the role realistically. The way people are respecting me, Zaira also deserves respect.”

“I had met her during the shootings. And, after that we have met so mnay times. Zaira is a simple girl. She used to ask about how we fought in wrestling. She has done wonderful wrestling in the movie,” she added.

Commenting on the people who are abusing the actress on social media, Geeta said: “Zaira should not be afraid. We are there with her. The role she played is very respectful.”

Superstar Aamir Khan says demonetisation has not affected him.

Asked if the step has affected him, Aamir told reporters here: “Demonetisation hasn’t affected me. This step must have affected those who deal in cash daily. ..like someone who doesn’t have a bank account or a credit card. All my earnings are in the bank… we shop mostly with credit cards. So it has not affected me.”

Aamir, Salman enough to handle wrestling; I stick to romance: Shah Rukh Khan https://glint.tv/movies/aamir-salman-enough-to-handle-wrestling-i-stick-to-romance-shah-rukh-khan/ Fri, 08 Jul 2016 06:39:18 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=2585

Shah Rukh Khan has no intentions of exploring the wrestling genre like his Bollywood co-stars Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. Salman’s wrestling-based Sultan is currently in theatres, while Aamir is coming up with Dangal, which is releasing later this year.

The Badshah insisted that he doesn’t look like a wrestler anyways, so let his counterparts handle that genre. SRK, who has previously worked in a sports-drama Chak De India, said he will stick to romance and has no plans of changing the genre.

“Let Aamir and Salman handle wrestling. Two of them are enough to handle wrestling,” Shah Rukh said in a media interaction. “Above all I don’t look like a wrestler from any angle. I am a romantic hero and I don’t know wrestling.”

Shah Rukh’s next release is Raees, which was pushed to next year for averting clash with Salman’s Sultan. Raees was slated to hit the theaters, alongwith Sultan, this Eid.

SRK said, alongwith his injury, limited screens was also the reason behind postponement of Raees. Now, the movie will hit big screens on January 26 next year.

“When two films release at the same time, we don’t get the big theatrical release we want,” SRK pointed out. “Budget of the film suffers if the movie is not releasing on 4,000 screens.”

“One needs to have 8,000 to 10,000 theatres for two movies to release at the same time,” he added. “I don’t think two big films can release at the same time.”

Sultan Review | Salman Khan delivers knockout punch | Less sports More drama https://glint.tv/movies/sultan-review-salman-khan-delivers-knockout-punch/ Wed, 06 Jul 2016 19:32:19 +0000 https://glint.tv/?p=2563

Glint Stars *****

Box office experts had declared Sultan a hit even before it hit the theatres, keeping in mind the advance booking rush for the Eid release. The fans have given it a thumbs up. Even the star critics, who are always ready with their sharpened knives before any of Salman’s releases, have given it their approval.

Yes the movie ticks many right boxes. Sultan is a fast paced action drama, where the hero (Salman) is not a superhero. Salman is believable as Sultan; he has his failures and frailties. He doesn’t win all the fights he enters…or maybe he does…eventually. Unlike many of Salman’s earlier films, the supporting cast has a significant role to play and many come up with stellar performances.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar has written a crisp script full of action, romance and drama and stuck to the storyline through the shoot and the edit. This is what you logically expect from anyone when they venture out to make a ‘commercial film’ and not hide behind commercial cinema to produce a shoddy film.

That said please stop calling this a sports drama. For an ex sports journalist and producer the kind of stuff we let pass as sports is quite funny. As far as I’ve seen, even state level athletes in any sport pull off what can be best described as sheer magic. And you can’t just create magic with a month’s training. A wrestler can’t put out a challenge match against a higher weight category wrestler in a state championship, even if he has to prove a point to his ladylove. And there’s nothing as ‘dhobi pacchad knock out’ in wrestling as was the norm shown in the movie. I can just go on and on, but I’ll stop if you stop calling it a sports drama!

Coming off the sporting arena, Salman’s restrained acting as Sultan and the effort he has put in to play a wrestler is commendable. Anushka Sharma as the female wrestler looks even more convincing and looks ravishing in the couple of songs in which she features.

Now I must take a bow to the lyricist Irshad Kamil. Again he has proved that when it comes to marrying film lyrics with poetry, jag ghoomeyathare jaisa na koi (I wandered all over but I have not met anyone like you yet).

That’s one of the lines of the songs penned by Irshad for the movie. But the best composition comes after this line:

Baarishon ke mausam mein bheegi hariyali tu
Sardiyon mein gaalon pe jo aati hai wo lali tu
Raaton ka sukoon bhi hai
Subah ki azaan hai
Chaahaton ki chaadaron mein
Maine hai sambhali tu

(You are wet greenery of rainy seasons
You are that blushing, which appears on the cheeks in winters
You are the rest of nights
You are the prayer of morning too
In the sheets of affections
I hold you)

Wanted to end on that poetic note but can’t help mentioning this. One big complaint against Yash Raj Films – if you have a Salman Khan in your corner, what is the need for product placement at all and that too such blatant brand promotion. One particular Direct to Home brand’s on-your-face placement across the movie, is a big put off.
